Just a couple of squares...

As it says in my bio thing, diabetes set me free and I utterly mean that. My addiction to food especially carbs, was what took me to ill health and 21 stones. Cravings are so much easier to cope with (yep, I still get them) and I will NEVER go back to my former life but the food issues that plagued me 10 years ago, still niggle on.

I simply can’t eat two squares of chocolate or a handful of peanuts (oh my days the salted peanut craving can be a *******) and if I make a low carb treat, it all gets eaten until it’s gone so I don’t have any of it anymore. If I make a meal, however much there is, I’ll eat it all. Consequently, I have to be strict with all my food but it’s so much easier than when I was eating crisps or hot buttered toast!

Does anyone else have the same issues?

Only with certain foods. Crisps, crackers and salted peanuts or cashews are off the menu as I just have no off switch with them. No problem with chocolate as I had to give that up many years ago due to another condition but that took a very long time to master.

The only time I have a problem with portion control is when I try to give up smoking and then all bets are off, I will eat anything and everything to fill the 'void' that nicotine fills up.

It's something to do with a fat/salt or fat/sugar combination. I can cope with fat , sugar and salty foods separately but give me a combination and I'm done for, i have to eat the lot. As you can probably guess, combination foods are not allowed in my house. Especially salted nuts or icecream.

Same here... early in my journey I made low carb seed crackers (they were awesome BTW) problem was they were awesome and became the 1st to grab item along with whatever yummy little topping that was in the fridge until they were all gone. I have substituted celery which is no where near as addictive...even with smoked salmon cream cheese...

Oh how I loved those crackers! I’d buy more stuff to put on them too, same in the early days when substitution was imperative, I’d eat six slices of low carb toast in one go, smothered in any low carb excuse for toppings I could possibly manage.
I’d make ganache and spread it and butter thickly on an LIDL protein roll.
Fat bombs would be made and devoured in one sitting.

I have the same problem. Meat, cheese, eggs olives all no problem. I can eat a little and stop.
I rarely make low carb treats. Sometimes when I entertain I make something we all can have for dessert. I can’t stop until it’s all gone.
Anyone bread or cookie like triggers cravings even though it doesn’t spike my BG because it’s low carb.

Me too had to eat the lot .. ate two went away but was back in 5 minutes for more... ate the lot in 30 minutes.. way too bread like for me... triggered all sorts of problems.. I am unfortunately noticing something similar happening with 85% chocolate.... have to do another OMAD steak only month!

@bulkbiker - been struggling with nut butter and cream and had been thinking of branding May Meat May (with fish, cheese and eggs included). Fancy joining me?

Where is this bio thing? Not showing on my phone.

Back on topic, when I am low carbing I’m much better as appetite drops dramatically.
But there are some things I just can’t stop at.
Sweets being main thing and chocolate.

Apparently my new go to thing is sausages.

I’ll cook them ready to be eaten in the week but I find myself constantly going to the fridge and snacking.

Easily solved, just need to freeze them.

Wish I had same issue with drinking water.

When it was cold I was fine, 1.5 litres per day. Now it’s warmer I’m really struggling to up my water.

Cream is allowed!

Anyone else want to join in?

But but but I’ll be at the PHC with their amazing low carb food and a special low carb meal at Caldesis on Friday evening!

I’m already doing the thing, this will help me extend it but I’m having cream in my coffee too. Now down to less than 50 mls a day

Water? Yuck, I can get a few mouthfuls in then have to stop. I’m impressed you manage to drink that much.

Nothing else to drink. In the car can’t have tea and strangely I’ve gone off that.

Used to drink it constantly but now sometimes I just don’t fancy it.

Never used to have sugar in it. But I think sometimes I just want sweet and of it isn’t sweet I just don’t want it. So because then I can’t have sweet I go without (or have hot choc).

What else is there to drink?

Coffee and sugar free stuff, that’s what I drink anyway.

Detest coffeee, can’t even stand smell or as a chocolate sweet (it’s that serious)

Sugar free stuff seems to upset stomach. I was having fruit creations by Robinson’s but it seemed to aggravate IBS.

So back to water
