Rude people! Not being able to do the things I want to do.
I would like to remind ALL members what you agreed to when you signed up for this forum,

In the last few weeks I have seen more ‘flaming’ and ,at times, rude posts than I have seen for quite some time.
All types of diet and treatment are discussed on the forum, the statement,’ We are all different’ is also often quoted.
We have members who control their diabetes, both type one and two, by various diets.
However in the last few weeks it seems to me that those who advocate low carbing have been attacked just because they have recommended it. I have seen the term,’low carb bullies’ used.
Those that low carb know it works for them. They want to pass it on. Their results shown on the board show that it has worked for them.
Now, to attack them for their opinion is also ‘bullying’ and just as bad as low carbers attacking anyone who follows a higher carb diet. The key word is respecting each others differences.

This forum was a welcoming and helpful place for newly diagnosed diabetics. At the moment it must be a very confusing and scary place to post.
It saddens me that this has happened.
I ,for one, would like us to get back to helping newbies, respecting each other’s views and having healthy debates ,without insults, in a fair and logical manner.
We are all diabetics and must support each other, we are all looking for control, by what ever means, so that we can have, hopefully, a long life without complications.

You are all articulate people let’s get back to,’normal service’ and respect each others views.
I also do not want this thread to become yet another controversial he said/she said thread but would like it to stand as a statement, from me, as moderator, on what this forum should be, can be and hopefully will be again.

Sugarless Sue..........Moderator.

Sue,

Hear, Hear. I'd quite forgotten about the forum rules - it's good to be reminded now and again.

Regards, Tubs.

I second that - well said Sue.

I have stayed away in recent weeks because I felt that it was getting a bit agressive on here which is a pity, we all have the same goal and should be pulling together ans should appreciate that different things work for different people.

I found this site very helpful when I was first diagnosed and would like people to be able to see the value of this site and the experienced people on here.

Louise

Thanks Sue, I hundred per cent back you. This forum is about helping people, and there is no place for aggression or sustained personal disagreements.

Absolutely right everyone.
I'm going away for a few days from tomorrow morning and I'm looking forward to being under the radar for a while!
See you all later,

fergus

Like Troubr, I haven't been posting as much lately, as things were getting so heated. I like to keep an open mind on things but more than anything I don't like to think of newbies coming to the forum and being frightened off by squabbling, when they may well then miss out on some very useful advice andsupport from those more experienced than me.

Same here...I'd avoided coming onto the site so often lately due to the 'heated' debates. I really enjoyed this site but would occassionally come across posts that were a bit too 'heated'. hopefully things will now calm down. We really don't need any more hassles in life do we? Don't you think we all have enough problems in life? :?

You are right Sue. I lurked in the site from the day I was diagnosed (14th July) and there are lots of opinions and good advice to look at, but in the end we are all individuals and have to chose our own path. If one path does'nt work for you then you can try another. I listened to the "Lo Carbers" advice, but being a foodaholic with a serious weight problems would probably have failed on a strictly lo carb diet so I cut the down to where I felt comfortable. My results published in a post elsewhere have been a really good start for me. All I am trying to say (whilst rambling profusely) is that all sensible opinions should be welcomed, and because something works well for you doesnt necessarily mean it will for the next person. That said you have all been nothing but lovely so keep up the good work!

Cheer up. We're on The Internet (TM). You can only say you truly have a great forum once it's had it's first tribal war.

Besides truly passionate debate is what drives civilisations forward - and you have to think of this place as a mini-civ. Effectively what you have here is a religious conflict - instead of the Crusaders and the Turks, you have the Low-Carbers and the Traditionalists. Once they both develop past the point of religious fervour and start to truly read what the others are saying they will finally form a more rounded, unified view of the world/diabetic treatment.

See, positive spin ;)

Hi everyone,

Good to see that the forum is being looked after properly! As a new user and newly diagnosed (only a couple of weeks), I would like to believe that my opinions of this place are unbiased and fairly open-minded. Whilst any allegations of 'bullying' are a massive overstatement, I can appreciate that the general tone to a lot of the posts resonate a positive message regarding 'low carbing' - perhaps even to the extent of criticism of those of us who don't 'low carb' or simply don't fully understand it.

Similarly, as a T1 newbie, I am still settling into my regime and when I read posts that say things like "anything above 8 and you're harming myself" really make me scared and upset. Now, I appreciate and fully encourage users to post their success stories and great results - it provides hope and inspiration - but there is a thin line, I think, between being a good role model and self-righteous.

Think of the newbies!

Acron,at the start of getting to grips with your diabetes be it type one or two everyone's levels are all over the place. Some have really fearsome numbers to start out with.Over a period of time ,however ,as they get the hang of diet ,medication etc ,the numbers stabilise. However it is not much good telling some one they should be happy with a level that ,in the long run will cause complications.that is not helping anyone at all.Once your diabetes has settled down to more stable numbers then that is the time to start refining your medication and diet to see if the levels can be reduced to less than 7-8 to give you a chance of a long and active life.

EXACTLY!

Mediocrity may be an improvement on what you are currently achieving but it should NOT to trumpeted as an end in itself.
