Best thing would be to do some basal testing - you can't really sort out bolus ratios until your background is level.Been on Levemir for about 2 weeks now 16 in morning and 16 before bed and its still not going that great to be honest.
I inject Levemir around 7 am then again about 10pm. Where I am finding the biggest issue is my late morning just before lunch levels. I am taking around 2 units of Humalog to 10 grammes carbs.
As an example my 7am was 6.5, good so far, so i take about 40 g of carbs in form of porridge and semi skimmed milk. Around 10.30 |I have acouple of digestives about 20 g of carb and yet by 12.30 my levels are at 11.5. That is despite taking 16 units of Humalog.
Lunch is about 50 g of carbs with, 14 units of Humalog and by 6pm I am still around 11.5.
Dinner is 50 g of carbs around 6pm with 16/18 units of humalog and a biscuit around 7.30. However my levels are dropping to 4 around 10.
Totally confused, where am I going wrong
I have levemir, I started off at 12 units at bed time and on waking, but my sugars were still high, I'm now on 16 units and my BG is pretty much always in target (4.5-7.5) but I'm only a month old diabetic, so could still be in the "hunny moon period" as they say :S but I have no comparison, sorryBeen diabetic for 36 years, taking Humalog as short acting and Lantus as my basal. Have been on Lantus for around 10 years.
My results could be a lot better, typical bg seems to be around 8/9. I generally find my mid morning BG to be at its highest then, and evening BG are usually not too bad. On going to bed most nights as I take my lantus my BG is around 6. Next morning typically it will ruise to around 8
At the moment I take 32 units of Lantus usually around 10pm. DSN suggested i split the dose 18 in morning and 14 at night and to monitor progress
I do pretty much stick to a routine in that Mon - Fri I go to bed around 10pm and take my jab then. I get up around 7 am and take my Humalog then.
When would be the best time to take the levemir. DSN advised as long as there was over 7 hours between them there should be no issues
Do I take Levemir at 7am then 10pm, or would I be better taking at 7am then around 6pm when I have my evening meal and Humalog
I would appreciate any advice from anyone taking Levemir
