Just an idea but could it be that starchy carbs actually more dangerous to T2s than sugar ?

If you don't mind me asking what kind of meals do you eat if you cut out bread pasta and rice. Thanks

Hello Maureen.

I forgot to state I also cut out potato too.

I eat a lot of eggs for breakfast - with bacon & veggies (onion pepper etc)

I've tried doing things like using cauliflower as a rice substitute, or as a pizza base, but I don't bother anymore. Just a protein and plenty of veggies. I also suffer from IBS so can't eat beans or brassicas without consequence, so I eat a lot of leeks, asparagus, mushrooms, peppers, onions, sweetcorn with my protein.

I've also tried all the different pulses, Quinoa etc, but it just doesn't do it for me. Each to their own though. One thing I can't seem to let go is a good nan bread with a curry and I sometimes treat myself.

I used to love nothing more than a lasagne or a curry with rice, but I have to admit I don't miss them anymore - especially when the weight started to drop off.

Hope that helps.

Andy

Hi andy thanks did send you reply but seems not to have gone so try again. I suffered with reflux and Ibs but it's come back since changed my diet, I will try your suggestions, and cut out bread and try rye bread, I didn't like quinoa either, I've introduced eggs into my diet recently, will try bacon now see how it goes, I lived in Iran for many years and it's a country of rice eaters which I love but I rarely it it now trying to be careful. Thanks for your help. Good luck. Thanks again

If you going to try low carb, make sure you do it slowly by reducing them. And don't forget you need full fat. There is a recent report that cholesterol is not affected by full fat.
Losing weight is the best way to control the condition with low carbing.
Smaller meals, reduce carbs, increase the exercise by walking a little more if you can!
Hope that helps.

Hi nosher. Thanks for the advice, will do, walking is a bit difficult tho as I'm disabled in my legs but I do walk but slow! Bought stationary bike put in lounge! My sugars shot up with out my knowing and I was loosing weight fast nearly 9kls in few weeks, so weights not so bad 59kls now but want to keep healthy so thanks again for advice, I welcome any help thanks

At my age, I can only walk, my dog helps, I think, sometimes!
Your bike will help but do it slowly!
One of the tricks about blood glucose control is by taking a walk after eating, but a leisurely bike ride will do! Whereas, sustained exercise raises blood levels, because your liver supplements your glucose usage by giving you more.
Weird but true!

I can relate to this as I was diagnosed 1 year ago with T2 and Hba1c at 79. Following a low carb Atkins type diet and self testing blood glucose, I am now at Hba1c of 42, lost 15 KG and gone from a waist measurement of 38" to 32" (reduction of 6" or 15cm)! All this with no help from the NHS, who will not even supply my test strips!

No

I'm on sitagliptin to prevent hypers!
Nosher8355. As my doctor put it my sugars had gone out of this world. Immediately gave me a machine and put me on meds! I Was on a long distance flight and so hyper! Now I'm on meds I'm hypo! Can't seem to win! Keep trying. They Lowered my medicine yesterday to see what happens. Let's hope.

Hi don't know about your doctor but my diabetic nurse told me while I'm on meds I can get strips on prescription, so I presume if I ever get of meds I won't get testing strips? I don't know. Good luck, keep asking can't lose anythink. Good luck

It's a balancing act trying to get sorted no matter what type you are. But reducing your carbs intake will help dramatically.
This will not be quick, a marathon not a sprint!
Please be patient, it does work.
I get my control, because I have to, by not letting myself go hyper, so I don't hypo!
It's really logical. If I low carb I don't feel ill!
So why should I eat carbs?

Patience I have plenty off, spent 8 years in battle area, I don't eat much carbs very careful, living in Iran taught me healthy eating, no rubbish, got my cholesterol down from 8 to 3.3. Trycliserite (can't spell that) down from 1.7 to 1 & my hba1c halved all in 3 months, but obviously still got lots to learn, thanks appreciate your advice.
