Just been diagnosed today and I'm shocked and worried

What I do is stalk the reductions counter at my local Asda, that way get to eat healthy foods at my 1970's financial budget.

But it can be a bit of a military exercise.

So do I, if you have a look at the nutritional values of some of this stuff it makes my hair stand on end (which is saying something cos it's long and curly lol)

I've found Morrisons to be the best value for fresh fruit and veg, they also do soya nuts for only 75p. Win! I weigh them carefully which makes them last and they're my favourite savoury snack when I'm craving crisps.
 
How can I put it, those M&S food porn ads were made for me.

Food for me is more then just an eating experience lolol

I want to bathe in the choclate, and dive my face into a torte lolol
 
It's hell having to hold back
The one thing that's kept me going is being able to adapt my favourite recipes. I used to love baking - cupcakes, muffins, chocolate fudge cake, you name it. Now I look at the recipes thread and see if I can make them low-carb. It's obviously working, I've been on LCHF for 5 months and I've lost nearly half a stone. I didn't start losing straight away but I'm now losing steadily which is just what I wanted. I previously lost 2.5 stone but I was younger then and wasn't perimenopausal either!
 
I'm an abstainer, otherwise Id go crazy! Lol

Well done, that's a great achievement!

I wish I could be an abstainer but my son is autistic and has various sensory issues with food which means he likes to eat the same things over and over again. He is also 6 ft 3 and nearly 16 stone so when he finds a food he likes he eats a LOT of it! His stomach is a bottomless pit!! The main reason I put on weight in the first place is because I'm a sucker for leftovers. I don't like seeing food go to waste so I would polish it off :oops: Luckily I've retrained myself into letting the cat have it instead :cat:
 
And thanks re weight loss - try telling that to any medical person I encounter.

Get treated like **** - and sick of it and now refuse to allow that kind of disrespect any more.

Not that I totally allowed it before, but now it's 150% NO!

It's a gastric liner (look it up on youtube, will give a better explanation then me) and stay in for a year.

Much better then a gastric bypass.

What's good about it, other then it helping you to lose weight, and it's only a temporary, is that apparantly it makes yr blood sugar levels go back to normal AND in only a few days.

They dont quite know why, but think it's something to do with not allowing the bile to be absorbed by the pancreas, so giving it a breather and thereby giving it a chance to go into functioning as normal.

Usual cost is £7,000 but trials are taking place in a number of cities such as London - Kings College hospital and Guys and St Thomas More Hospital.

Professor Stephanie Amiel and Dr P Chowdry head up the trial at Kings.

You have to be type 2 diabetic - as pretty much nearly all medical people I've encountered dont even recognise being prediabetic, just say type 2, I am
 
I went to see the diabetic nurse at the surgery after I had visited the doctor about my raised HBA1C and she told me that I am already doing everything that I should be doing with regards to exercise and diet and that there is nothing I can do at all to slow down or stop me getting diabetes now. I felt rather disappointed and a bit now that its out of my hands. She told me that as my grandparents were diabetic its probably genetic, if I am going to get it, then I am going to get it. They will just monitor me and if I do then they will medicate me. I still don't smoke don't drink exercise at least 5 times a week and i'm veggie so I have decided that in October I am going to give up sugar for a month and see how that will affect me. I definately have sugar cravings and have the occasional binge on chocolate. I am reading a book about sugar at the moment and the bad effects it has on insulin, its very interesting. As for low carb, I still need to get my head around that one.
 
Hi, Definitely cut out all sugar, and even though yr veggy, do watch that the particular veg you eat is no to low carb.

Also do look up The Joceylin Centre - the Americans do seem ahead of us.
