Hiya Lee, i suspect your still in shock! Just know that everything will settle down and you will begin to understand diabetes and how to control it better very soon.
I was in hospital 5 days after i was diagnosed - and i felt the same. I look back now and wonder if the tiredness and heavy headiness was just down to how much infomation there is to take in in the first couple of days. Its defiantely infomation over load! I was 10 at the time, so i had my parents there to take it in for me and explain it to me over a period of time, so for you to take it all in alone, must be mad!
This forum is very helpful though, and ive had some really good pieces of advice from visiting here. Its the best thing that i have done joining this forum, it took me 11 years to join it, but now im so glad i did!
If your blood sugars are still high, that will explain the tiredness also - high blood sugars make me go very sleepy and feel basically - blurgh - no easier way to put it! Id suggest getting in touch with someone, maybe your DSN (Diabetic Specialist Nurse) and see what she says? Your current regime might not be right for you! Ive been diabetic 11 years and i still havent found a regime that works 100%!!
As for getting out and about - DO IT! Dont hide yourself away, diabetes is nothing to be ashamed of, and if people comment or pick at it, there just shallow minded! Do your normal things - just be prepared = take hypo correctives out with - i always carry some glucose in my bag if i ever need them and always have my blood testing kit with me.
Hope this has been some help, hope to hear back from you!
Laura
