A fasting blood test is 12 hours isn’t it? It’s for my diabetes monitoring so hba1c and cholesterol included.
Due to COVID there isn’t any paperwork anymore, you just have to take nhs number. It is usually the information contained in your appointment letter, how long and if you need to fast.
Stay safe
12-14 hours water only is usually best for cholesterol testing.Due to COVID there isn’t any paperwork anymore, you just have to take nhs number.
In the past it’s only ever said fasting, never how long,
Checked online and it said 12 hours but in my head I’ve got 16 from somewhere
Thank you. I’ll stop eating at 6 tonight then that will be 14 hours.12-14 hours water only is usually best for cholesterol testing.
For HbA1c it's irrelevant anyway.

My dr has always said I didn’t need to fast for hba1c. In fact at the start when I was worried about fasting due to the meds and then driving she told me to eat something like a sweet that wouldn’t aff3ct the cholesterol but also wouldn’t affect the hba1c.Not for me mate, it's always fasting.

Hba1c is calculated over the previous 3 months so it doesn’t need to be fasting. If I had not been fasting and ate a few hours before my appointment my blood glucose levels could be anywhere, up or down. If you didn't know, it is food (carbs) that triggers the bloods to first go high then low.
I was misdiagnosed in 2009, because of not fasting.

Cholesterol does. if you are doing a fasting blood glucose test then yes that needs to be fasting.
Hba1c I don’t think I’d a fasting blood glucose test.
I fast for at least twelve hours (but allow water and maybe black coffee) before my annual diabetic bloods. Won't impact HbAc1 but can influence lipid results (cholesterol levels).A fasting blood test is 12 hours isn’t it? It’s for my diabetes monitoring so hba1c and cholesterol included.
