Hi I've just been diagnosed with type 2. 2 hours ago. I will be honest I'm in shock. I was wondering. Can I still eat porridge with skimmed milk for my breakfast?

I eat the porridge that comes in pots that you just add water and find my level only goes up by 3

Hi and welcome. Porridge isn't ideal as it is a carb. Small portions would be fine. I have oats in muesli with cold milk which avoids the 'stewed' oats in porridge which will be higher-GI and spike the blood sugar a bit more. Most of us would advise you to get a glucose meter so that you can check your own blood sugar and see what foods affect you most and by how much. The SD Codefree on the web is one of the cheapest. Although all milk has a bit of sugar in the lactose, I wouldn't worry unless you drink gallons of it. I believe skimmed milk has more sugar than full fat so if you like full-fat why not change to that (don't worry about the fat in it)

Porridge doesn't effect me. I make it with full cream milk, almond milk or hazelnut milk. And I add double cream.
The only way to know if it will spike you is to test before, then hours after.
