Hi all,
To many this will be in a distant past of their situation, I went on Wednesday for a glucose/Blood test as at my 1st appointment with the diabetic nurse raised question as I am not showing any symptoms or family past history of been diabetic.

Got telephone call today to make a 30 min appointment with same nurse as my results show "abnormal" whatever that may be. I'm asuming its either one side or the other side of been normal.

I'm holding out hope I can treat this son of a female dog with diet and a better lifestyle..

let all know after next Friday after seeing nurse :D

Hi wiz,
It's not at all uncommon for diabetes to be discovered randomly. In my own case it was found purely by chance when I had a blood test for something completely unrelated. At the time of diagnosis I was fit and not overweight, I had experienced no symptoms and have no family history of diabetes.

I think that when people start to suffer the classic symptoms, their blood sugars are generally way above the levels that mine, and probably yours, were when diagnosed. And of course you are absolutely correct that you can maintain excellent control with diet and lifestyle. It does need a little determination and willpower to start with, but then it just becomes part of your normal way of life. If you want more information on this have a look round the Food forum and the Low-Carb forum for ideas. And of course please ask if you have any questions.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Dennis :D

After many years of a ridicules diet been diagnosed has really woken me up and making me take stock as I'm not getting any younger.

In another thread just mentioning I just purchased a few slow cooker books and of course a slow cooker to ensure I start to eat better and get veg, of course cutting out all them high carb things.

What I am laughing at   if in the last 5 months I have started taking more exercise and loosing weight (3 stone so far) and am much fitter then I have been in years and along came diabetes.

  my unhealthy carb ridden former lifestyle certainly was even better or as I think it caught up with me

Isn't ot maddening, when results are given to you as "normal", "abnormal" and other similar words. I always ask for the actual figures.

hya wiz,
welcome to the club
let us know how u get on :D :D

Agree with Hana, make sure they give you the actual numbers. If you're not symptomatic then they may have caught it early which will hopefully make it easier to control.

Thanks for the information, I will ask the numbers when I see the nurse next week. As I'm reading from the forum this will give me an number to try and work up/down from.

My blood/sugar numbers so far was at the hospital (no food for 8 hrs) 12.5 and after a fasting test (finger prick) was 7.8.

So at least it shows a drop :D
