When I was diagnosed in March 27 this year my mmol/mol was 86 (10%)

I've lost over two stones since then - just got this back 18/08/2017 52mmol/mol (6.9%)
Cholesterol 27/03/2017 was 7.0

18/08/2017 is now 7.5

Was asked if i wanted to take statins - I refused I will never take them not after seeing what it did to my dad he died in April this year .

I know its gone down but is this good apart from the cholesterol of course ?

thank you x

congratulations that's a great improvement in your HbA1C :) and weight loss. Are you on any meds or have you done this just with diet ? If you follow a lowcarb diet then cholesterol should sort itself out in time. Do you eat things like oily fish and walnuts which help with cholesterol.

My understanding is that it is more the ratio within the cholesterol rather than the overall number which matters. So how much LDL to serum level and trigs etc.

There are a number of natural supplements which help lower cholesterol x

Thank you - no medication at all just diet and exercise . I was disappointed with the cholesterol but doctor isn't concerned . I can't do the low carb diet it makes me tired and I need a lot of energy as I'm full time carer for mu mum and she needs a wheelchair and i take all over in it , so need energy . I tried it just can't do it .

My Hubby's cholesterol came back as 5.2 (for normal folk it's supposed to be 5) and the nurse tried to put him on statins which he vehemently refused. Well even better if you have managed this without low carbing, you should feel very pleased with yourself xx

If the Doctor isn't worried then I wouldn't be either, you are exercising and eating well. Cholesterol is produced naturally in your body, apart from what you take in with your diet. Sometimes if you consciously diet and count calories etc then your body ups the cholesterol it makes to compensate ! x

Amazing stuff, @WackyJacky64 ! Congratulations to you!

What would you say is the secret to your success - the one thing you think has kept you on the path to such dramatically improved results?

Hi Thank you - I really think it is because I needed a good kick up the backside to lose weight and being given the diagnosis of type 2 gave the determination to change and turn this around . I lost my dad to Parkinson's and dementia in April this year and the last thing he said to me was ' well done weight loss will do you good ' after that he lost his ability to speak and I treasured those words from him and i did it for him as well as myself - but the first week of diagnosis I lost half a stone then it just kept coming off .

I also joined myfitnesspal and started walking daily and i found a youtube video 'walk one mile' in fifteen minutes and its so much fun too . Its easy on the joints and has really helped me lose the weight .

That's it really I have some bad days when I eat bad things - but we all need to treat ourselves and if we didn't we would fail I think . I hope this helps you and thank you so much for the encouragement .x
