Is this normal to begin with? Just had eggs scrambled in butter and two hours later my bg's are higher than before. (Did have a cup of tea with no sugar not long before I tested as there is always one on my desk when I arrive at work). Is this normal? Was really hoping to have come down a little bit. Thanks.

Hi googlegoss, What were your readings ? are you any medication ?

Readings are quite high 18.6 pre breakfast and 19.2 two hours after. Not on medication, tried metformin, terrible and then metformin SR, better but still not good so stopped taking anything. Going back to docs next week - I know she wont have any problems with me doing low carb

Hi @googlegoss

Usually readings are much higher two hours after eating and then reduce. I would be more concerned about the high pre breakfast level. Have your pre breakfast readings been this high for long?

No and dont know why they have shot up, could be stress I guess as had a lot going on with the family. Am keen to get them down as soon as possible though.

Hi @googlegoss

I'm sorry to hear about the stress and it can contribute to higher readings as well.

I took my eye off the ball myself last year and stopped testing, taking medication, watching my diet and regular exercise and started feeling pretty ordinary. I decided to go back to the Docs but then started to test and had readings similar to yours.

I am not a professional and also don't know all of your background etc so I am not in a position to advise you what to do. But I will indicate what I would do with those readings
  • Make sure I get to that Doctors appointment next week and try to bring it forward if possible
  • Right now I would eliminate all Bread, Sugar, Biscuits, Crackers, Pasta, Rice and Potatoes and fruit from my diet
  • Exercise after each meal for 20 minutes (even if it was a gentle walk and 10 minutes is better than none)
  • Test my BG before eating each morning and before lunch and dinner (no need to test after meals at this stage as I am not eating the high sugar and carbs)
  • I would post the results good or bad on here to see if I can get further feedback
Let us know how you go

Thanks for your help. Will carry on low carbing and hopefully they will gradually reduce. Will also up my testing as you suggest. I took the appointment next week because of the time as I work full time and not able to get there easily in the day and also I wanted to see a particular doctor. Only have to wait now until Wednesday.

Hi @googlegoss

What was your last reading before eating in the morning?

Hi muzza3, my early morning reading today was 15.8 so lower than yesterday which is good. Still too high but hopefully it will keep falling day by day. Post breakfast 17.1 and then 15.8 before lunch. Had scrambled eggs with butter for breakfast and got tuna with 2bsp fat mayonnaise small amount of cucumber and small amount of beetroot with slice corned beef so hoping for good post lunch reading - thanks for your continuing help, its much appreciated
