Hi Katy,
Welcome to the forum. What sort of insulin are you on? Are you on MDI or a mixed insulin? Whichever type you are on, you need to be carefully monitored, initially, by your health care-team.
It is tricky sorting correct dosages on your own, so if you don't feel confident about things, please ask your medical team for more guidance. I was on a mixed insulin for 4 years (Novomix) before being changed to Novorapid/Lantus. When I started Novomix, I was monitored every couple of days by my D.N. When I was changed over to Novo/Lantus, I was just given the insulin, told to 'try' a small dosage and given a follow-up appointment for some months later. This left me feeling very on my own, which Is why I urge you to seek better medical guidance than I had. You are entitled to that.May I suggest a book that might help you? It helped me and is called 'Think Like a Pancreas'. It's written by Gary Scheiner.
I, personally, don't think it's a very good idea for any of us on this forum to advise you on insulin dosages, as we don't know your personal medical needs and that advice should come from your medical team. Folks on this forum are great for general guidance and friendly support but actual dosage guidance needs beter back-up from your diabetes team.
I'm sure you'll soon get into the swing of using insulin. It is hard at the beginning but once you get into the swing of things, you'll soon feel confident in sorting dosages and I'm positive, feel much better generally.
All the best, Chocoholic.
