Just tested myself for the first time...

Hi all,

Yesterday I did three tests with a CareSens N testing kit and these were the readings:

Before breakfast: 6.9
1 hr after lunch: 6.3
2 hrs after lunch: 9.1

And from what I can see on the interweb, it's a sign of pre diabetes. I had some symptoms like being thirsty a lot, getting up in the middle of the night 2 or 3 times to go to the toilet, and I've just been feeling really lethargic. I'm okay with that to be honest. I'm a recovered alcoholic (6 years sober), so I guess I knacked my pancreas with the booze.

But this morning my partner tested herself and she gets a reading of 7 (before breakfast), which surprises me; she's one of those super-fit nutters who runs ultra marathons (she's currently training for a 100 mile race), she's skinny, doesn't smoke, eats a healthy diet, and doesn't drink (unlike me, she doesn't drink because she doesn't like it; the weirdo).

I plan to make an appointment with my doctor and get properly tested, but I guess I'm just looking for a little feedback on our scores, or the testing equipment we used.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Regards

Tosh

I suggest you both see a doctor and get tested. Alcohol doesn't damage the pancreas in a way that would cause diabetes. Prediabetes indicates increased risk of T2 diabetes, which is a disorder of insulin resistance throughout the body's cells. T1 diabetes can be caused by damage to or dysfunction of the pancreas. T1 typically comes on suddenly and severely, whereas prediabetes and T2 tend to creep up on someone.

Thanks both. The 'lunch' I had, Mike, was a big bowl of noodles, followed by a Snicker chocolate bar (I know I know).

We will make an appointment with our doctor today.

No wonder .... noodles are murder. The snickers I won't discuss as you know it and don't need the lecture. Get rid of that rubbish mate :) 9.1 is not good. Wish you well on your journey

Mike

If your thinking your diabetic, then do please consult your doctor, only the doctor can confirm this for you.
