Hello Everybody

This is my first forum. Only joined yesterday.

I am Type 2. I am on Metformin and Hummalog Mix50. I check my sugars 7 times a day. Before meals then 2 hours after then at last thing before bed. My sugars range from 2 right up to 30 sometimes. My son came home one day and found me half an hour from deaths door. I just want you to do yourselves a favour and keep checking your feet for problems.

If you ever get an ingrowing toe nail, make sure you don't look after it yourself get the GP to look after it. Why am I telling you this? Well, I 'looked' after it myself and the result is they have taken off half my foot because the infection ate my bone. It looks like its infected again and they have said if antibiotics don't clear it up I have to have the rest of my foot off. The pain is awful. So now I have Diabetic Neuropathy to add to the rest of my medical problems. Morphine just takes the edge off. So now I am in a wheelchair because I just can't walk on it. I keep falling over (sounds funny but it's not). Guess what? I have an ingrowing toe nail on my other foot. Hopefully I will be able to keep my foot this time.

Thank you for reading and if this helps just one of you. Then I have done my job.

Keep well and stay safe.

Sorry to hear your story, though a good reminder for all to keep an eye on their feet, and hope all goes well in the future.

I have suffered from ingrowing nails since I was a nipper. They always drew blood when trying to cut them, in the end the podiatrist arranged to have them trimmed in hospital.

This Involved cutting the sides of the nails and killing the roots in the area that was causing trouble, I choose instead to have the nails permanently removed even watched them doing it. Its the best thing I did for my toes, no more pain and blood, with a bonus its two less nails to cut.

Hi, im really sorry this has happened to you. I have in growing toe nail on both my big toes I trim them myself. I was in chronic pain with what was later diagnosed as osteoarthritis in my hip (went onto to have a hip replacement) and couldn't bend down to cut my nails. My dr referred me to see a podiatrist, I went she looked at my feet said she would cut them just the once because as my feet were in a healthy condition she wouldnt be able too see me again. She said if my In growing toenails were infected they would be able to help me. So I'm still cutting them myself.
