I’ve been in the keto diet for just over 2 months now. My average calorie intake a day is around 1300 calories. So far I may have lost 2 pounds, if even that. I’m not very overweight. I’m 5’7, 170 lbs and do have quite a bit of muscle. My blood sugars range anywhere from low 5’s to low 8’s. I stopped taking insulin over 2 months ago and my blood sugars have been better than before starting keto. However, my blood pressure is nowhere near normal. I’m on ramipril/hctz 10/25mg a day. I was reading the side effects of this medication and one of them was increased blood sugars. I’m also taking 1000mg metformin a day. Can it be possible that since I’m on a diuretic medication and since the keto diet has diuretic effects that I’m loosing too much water and it increases my blood pressure? Normally when I test my blood pressure at rest it’s about 150’s over 80’s and heart rate of 80ish. The other day I did an experiment, and tested my blood pressure after an 45 min intense workout and my blood pressure was 146/55 with a heartrate of 139. It’s just very frustrating as I would really like to get off all medications. I did stop taking them once, and after 4 days off bp medication, my blood pressure got so high I started to have severe dizzy spells and almost fainting.
