I’ve been trying to do some research on the ketogenic diet, and from my understanding the body uses ketones instead of glucose for energy. My question is, does the body still rely on insulin to transport ketones to the cells? Just confused how it works.
The answer is NO.
Ketone bodies are being formed from fat inside every cell containing mitochondria (most cells except red blood cells). This mechanism does NOT depend on insulin.
No, it's notI have just created my profile today and had to pick either T1 or T2. I hope to change it in near future, sorry to confusu you. I'm diabetes free, so are people I work with (diabetics cured by diet adjustments).
Update: my status has been successfully changed.

Welcome to the forum.
For info the rules and ethos are here:Thank you, Diakat. That is a fair rule which I am going to respect.
There is no cure for Diabetes of any type. In my opinion, once diagnosed there is no such thing as being Diabetes free. There will always be a regime, be it dietary or medicinally or therapeutically one has to adhere to to stay well.
A very contentious claim indeed..Dear Guzzler, it is possible to reset your insulin resistance for good.

Dear Guzzler, it is possible to reset your insulin resistance for good. The process might be lengthy in more complex cases, but in general dietary adjustments, regulation of your circadian rythm and setting up other hormones suffice to regain insulin sensitivity. This is what I achieve with my experimental diabetic patients, without the use of medication.
For good? until your patients are dead I'm sorry but you are completely unable to make that claim.Tried and tested, Bulkbiker

I am a strong advocate for a ketogenic way of eating but there is no way I would ever make such a claim.
Edit to add unless they are all dead of course which wouldn't be a great ad for keto!
Presumably the best diets are the ones you are selling. Not all keto diets are equal.
