Hi all,

Newbie low carber here - I started 4 days ago and havent eaten more than 35g carbohydrates each day. I have T1 and my blood sugars have been great, aside from the odd hypo in the morning which I'm putting down to not having the right ratio/amount of levemir yet. The highest has been 8.5mmol/l. However I tested my ketones today, which was 1.8mmol/l, which is higher than it should be. Everything is telling me I should contact my doctor at once. I figure it makes sense that there will be ketones, given that that's generally the aim of a low carb diet, however generally with diabetes, ketones = bad. Should I be worried?

As long as your blood glucose is normal, that level of ketones is nothing to worry about.
In nutritional ketosis, my ketones are usually between 1.5-3.5

Ahh thats a big relief thank you! My highest BG since I started has been 8.5, not exactly low but hardly DKA-inducing. Thanks again!
