ketones- very worried mum!

I am concerned!

Zoe has been ill since, fri pm. She has been sick quite a few times but not since 1am.Her sugars have been around the 4's and 5's all mornin and has managed toast and a small packet of crisps. This is the first time she has been ill with her diabeties. Type 1, diagnosed 4 weeks ago. But ive jus checked ketones and they are +4, so i phone the hospital, i have sat her down to some juice now in the hope she wil keep it down.!!

The big danger is ketones with High BG. Zoe doesn't seem to have this and you've spoken to the hospital. If her sugar goes up, just take her there and let them know you are coming. You are doing all you can. Just keep an eye on those numbers.

Thanks for the reply, she has been drinkin more and sugars around 4. Ive stopped stressin a little now!

Hi Debbie,

I agree with Hana, provided Zoe's bg levels are fine, which they seem to be, her ketone levels aren't a problem. It's likely they are elevated as she hasn't been keeping her food down so her body is fueling itself by metabolising ketones instead.
