With the Ketone urinalysis sticks, ++ is 0.4 and +++ is 0.8? So the slightest misinterpretation of the stick colour with regards to the chart can result in a fairly large error margin.

My advice, stick with your meter reading providing that your strips are in date and in sound condition (not been exposed to excessive heat, moisture, etc). Your meter is more accurate than any urinalysis sticks, specifically with regards to the actual ketone reading at the time of testing.

Are you using the Glucomen LX PLUS meter?

My nurse gave me the freestyle optium yesterday with a few strips . I forgot to say in my post that I am type 1 just started a low carb diet so am expecting ketones , they are just totally different results !

They aren't totally different results. 0.4 on blood ketones and falling in the box on urinalysis that ranges from 0.4 to 1.5, with 0.8 in the middle. They are basically the same result. It's just the urinalysis result is inherently a bit vague.

hi @laffinjake_

You are actually measuring two different things. With Ketostix it's acetoacetic acid in urine... so that's the level of ketones you are excreting. With the blood ketone strips it's beta hydroxybutyrate circulating in blood (which isn't actually a ketone). Confused? ;) There is some correlation between the two, but the blood testing strips will give you the best idea of your circulating levels.

Thanks . Is it also normal to feel so dizzy and light headed? I've felt a bit weak today and I've had 50g carb today ,so more than I normally do

It might be what is referred to as 'Low-Carb Flu'. It's not real flu but just symptoms which should pass in a few days. Drink more water and maybe up your salt intake a bit until it passes.

I was looking at the mmol/L on the ketostix which is 8

I was told by a diabetes nurse that urine testing can be false reading since it's 4hr behind what iz actually in your blood.

Your blood monitor is definitely more accurate and up to date. I have one, had it for years.
