Hi everyone I had 2.6 ketones earlier just wondering what level dka would be so I no. I wasn't that unwell to be throwing up just dehydrated and going to the toilet a lot. I've got it down to 0.2 now :) my fault forgot a dose and I'm ill atm

I would assume DKa would come when your feeling sick, losing your breath etc, but technically it could come earlier...........

the important thing for me though is if I feel like I can treat the ketones on my own I will..............I have never been admitted to hospital for it but I have definitely been in it............

the presence of ketones, whether you feel ill or not, should be treated with insulin on a regular basis until they are in normal levels...........

one of the sick days rules going around will help you, its will basically tell you to test every 2 hours for ketones, and depending on the level you observe, a percentage of your insulin dose [your previous days total daily dose] should be given, on top of any insulin given for carbs, and your basal/background too......

stay safe...:)

Thanks guys I've been feeling unwell lately cold bad chest lack of energy think that's why my ketone are occurring it's something going around but I've had it for a week so

If the ketones have gone down then good but I'd get to the doctors so they can help you or the ketones will keep coming back...as long as you aren't being sick then you're fine but as soon as you throw up then you need to get to a&e pronto...I've had dka 3 times now it will start off as mild ketones and you'll think you're getting better and then next thing you know you're in resus...not trying to scare you btw lol

you get ketones when you don't have enough insulin in your system with higher BG OR you haven't eaten carbs for a week or are on a low carb diet..normally T1's and ketones are a worry..as @ohitsnicola said, don't take them lightly

Anything >1.5 and you should seek immediate advice from your diabetes health team and out of hours NHS24

Even if your not that sick ?? The problem is I work to many hours to get time off
Work is nowhere near important as your health!!! And if you're company can't understand that then more fool them! DKA isn't a small petty illness it is very life threatening
