You will need to assess your carbohydrate intake, as plant based foods can be very high in sugar and starch, and a blood glucose meter, which I assume you have will help you track what you can and can't eat.Thank you. I am vegetarian. Loved boiled veg with butter. Can I have homous with veg and sweet potatoes?

For what it's worth, I used to find readings as high as 21 invariably caused diarrhoea. You might find that as you reduce carbs, the diarrhoea will stop.Help please : hereditary Type 2 for last 5-6 years.
Diarohea for last 18 months on and off and has got worse recently.
BG recently varies from 10 mml/l to 21mml/l. Suffering from Candida.
So what is cause and effect?
Dr has advised to stop SR metformin to see if it stops diarohhea. We o tried about stopping when BG is so high.
At this point I have no idea what to eat?
How can I get Bg under control without metformin urgently as going to Paris next Wednesday.
So difficult to get doctors appointment am anxious.
What can I eat please?
Thank you in anticipation .
What are the best times to test and how do i know if I am doing something wrong, other than high numbers.Use your meter and test your body and your food
We are all different with varying tolerances
I've learnt never to say never.
Diabetes is an odd condition and your body might end up telling you you need meat, or it might not
Testing, and time, will tell
If you like celery and soup, i have a fab recipe that is great as a filler and really tasty. Super easy and quick to make and very low carb.@Paeony
Hi there, I reduced my HBA1c from 105 to 47 in 3 months following a vegetarian low carb diet and eating to my meter, now I've learned more about spikes I'm experimenting a bit more now but checking my meter at first bite and 2 hours post bite.
I eat baked camembert with celery, cucumber and red pepper. I eat Halloumi, lots of eggs, cauliflower rice with paneer curry.
I make broccoli and stilton soup and have found a site with low carb bread which serves the bread cravings.
I enjoy creamy mushrooms.
I tried making celeriac and swede chips bit it spiked me to much.
I go for a walk every night and am doing small weights exercises.
I hope that helps..x

Test before a meal and then 2 hrs later And compare the change. A non diabetic will usually return to the preprandial levels in that time after most meals so we aim to be back within 2mmol to replicate this response. If the rise is higher it shows we didn’t respond well to that meal and should avoid or adjust it next time. What are the best times to test and how do i know if I am doing something wrong, other than high numbers.
I started my new food regime last week and it is going remarkably well so far. Lost 5kg in a week! I have cut out sugar completely (candarel in tea), reduced portion size, leaving 12-14 hours overnight between food, cut out all pasta rice potatoes, and sticking to leafy greens, radishes, peppers ...basicly low carb or 0 carb veg. Meat wise, the usual, but in smaller portions. 2 egg omelette with cheese and bacon for breakfast most days, but frying a lot in olive oil and using mayonaise a fair bit. I think this is very doable, but i do worry that the fats like cheese, olive oil and yogurt, which i was always guilty for are not as OK as i think...... I gave myself a little treat of a small scotch and a glass of fizz at the weekend, but that was the only lapse. Am i getting this all right?
I have ordered a tester which should arrive tomorrow, so will start testing ASAP.
So back to my original question.... What are the best times to test and what do i look out for?
In the early days post diagnosis I'd test:What are the best times to test and how do i know if I am doing something wrong, other than high numbers.
