Keytones - how high does my bg have to be?

Hi,

I'm T2, diagnosed 3 or 4 years ago (brain cells not doing too well either! ). I'm on Metformin 850mg x 3 daily, and have recently been put on Gyclacide 40mg x 1 daily, as my bg seemed constantly around the 10 or 11 mark. It made a difference straight away, but then I came to Spain for a holiday and forgot the Gyclazide for a week. I've since bought some, but only 30mg which I've been taking for almost a week now, but my bg levels are still around the 10 mark.

My question is: how high do my bg levels have to be, and for how long before I need to start worrying about testing for keytones?

The usual advice is that you start testing for ketones when you've had two consecutive BG results of over 13.9. As a T2 it is much less likely you will develop ketones but not impossible so keep an eye on things and if you're not sure, speak to your doctor or diabetes nurse if you have access to one.

Hi,

I agree with Russ, but i personally also test for ketones if i have any reading over 17mmol. Especially if i'm poorly too!

Thanks muchly for your time and your replies. All you advice is taken on board and stored ready for use when required. Thanks again.
