Hi people
Im type 1 diabetic on insulin pump with a HB1 of 8.1. (a little high I know)
On Monday night I started to feel like I need to urinate all the time. I tested blood suger and it was 9.5 and since then I has not stopped. I get burning sensation after I pass urine but no other symptoms.
I went to get a urine test yesterday for urinary infection and it was negative and got told to see GP so I did today and had another Urine test which was negative but had very high suger content. Which GP said will be the cause but my suger levels have not been high constantly. Highest it has been is 24 on Monday for some reason but I gave insulin straight away and in hour and half it was down to 10. Since then my levels has not been higher then 14.

Now the urine test has been sent to the hospital but I am wondering if they will test for Kidney infection/disease? As doc assumes its high blood level but Im worried its much worse. Could it be kidney disease? I am booked for a fasting blood test next week but I aint sure if I cant fast for 14 hours being diabetic.

Hi Nekromantik

I have just read about your problems, I have been a type 1 diabetic for 50 years, over the years I have had very high sugar levels and pains in my kidneys, I recently had a blood test for my kidneys and a scan and they came back negative. As I am typing this note I have a slight pain in my RH kidney but I can only assumme the blood tests and scans have not missed anything.
I dont have any burning sensation or need to pee all that often. As for your fasting for 14 hours, you should be able to do it, just keep testing your blood sugar levels and wtch your insulin intake, I think you are using a pump?
I am no pump expert but have read the book on the Accu check spirit combo pump which I will be going on to on the 25 November.
I think you may have cystitis which is the symtoms you are describing.
Keep you chin up and try not to worry :)

Thanks :)

Well what is confusing is that both urine tests come back negative for bacteria and protein.
Over the last few years when my blood glucose level been high and I have corrected it usually feel like I need to go to the toilet again as soon as I lay down in bed. After 2nd time the sensation goes away and im fine the next day. This time however after it been high I keep needing to go to the loo often even if my bloods have been between 5 and 11 last 2 days.

I am on a pump yes, the accu check spirit combo. you will be happy on the pump :) my HB1C levels are now around 8.1 when they used to be high 9s on injections.

Hiya

I do sometimes have the problem you are describing, I go off to bed for the night, have a pee, clean teeth,/wash hands. lay in bed watching TV then about 1/2 hr get up for another pee, wash hands then need another pee.
This does happen every now and then but I do,nt get any burning sensation, my BS Level can even be around 5-6 when I have these peeing symptoms. I have tried too ignore it when I get this sensation but I am more frightened of wetting the bed. :problem: Beleive it or not I testmy blood 10+ times per day and can inject up to 10 times per day. I dont know wheather I love or hate diabetes, but I know their is nothing I can do to about it but look after it as best as I can
I am looking forward to the 25 november to having the pump set up, please stay in touch

i been diabetic since I was 1
so for 25 years now. my health been good apart from getting cataracts when I was 16
so now i get over worried when I get symptoms I not had before.

Sometimes I have nausea for 5 mins and then it goes and last night for 5 mins i had pelvic pain.
Doc I saw today was not very good he just did another urine test and thats it. I found that for the last 4-5 hours I been going to the toilet even more then last 2 days. If there is a infection bacteria should have shown up at least in one of the urine tests unless the doc was not looking for protein or white blood cells.

Today I have also been to the toilet for no 2s more then often.
Im hoping someone who is a doctor can answer me about if there is a possibility of a kidney problem even if urine strip test was negative.

It will take a week to get blood test results back too so il be worrying all that time ha ha

Hi Nekromantic,

We specifically don't allow people to give medical advice as a health care professional on this site for several reasons, so the best you will get is someone's personal experience, I'm afraid. If you're still having problems, I can only suggest that you keep pestering the doctor.

oh ok
hard enough getting seen by him ha ha
plus its the only surgery in local catchment area so cant change docs.

Can you see a different doctor in the same practice? I have GPs that I like but one I don't and I can usually avoid him.

surgery aint very good tbh.
only 2 docs and 1 nurse and you get who ever is free.
week in advance booking is needed while "emergency appointments" are hard to get as you have to call at 2.30 to get it and its always busy line.
