Whats the carb content per slice then Malc? I personally (type 1 using insulin) use Burgen Bread for sandwiches which like you has little effect on my bg levels.

So Malc, where can I get this carbalose from? Is it possible to buy it from a shop/supermarket or does it have to be online?
Ta muchly
Hi you 2!
Nigel, I use burgen for normal occasions as well, but I use this stuff for fresh hot bread or pastry. Amount of carbs per slice depends on how thick you cut it! Burgen though is 27 grams of carbs per 100, and this is supposed to be 19 NET carbs per 100, if you believe it. Does work though. I'm a type 2 on diet only. Last time I had a normal steak and kidney pie my wife baked I was 11 (BG) 2 hrs later. She baked the same, with the same veg to accompany, using carbalose and I was 6.1 2 hrs later! The bread (couple of slioces after making in bread machine) leaves me at 6 compared to 6.5 to 7 for same amount of burgen.
Can't buy it in stores, but can get it online at low carb megastore Ladybird. Bit pricey I'm afraid, but worth it to have the occasional pastie or pie again! I tend to use it more for pastry than bread, because like Nigel I can eat Burgen O.k, but this makes a big difference with pastry. Have to use a bit more water, and use lower oven temp for slightly longer, but makes **** good pastry.
Let me know if you try it, and how you get on.
By the way, got some great low carb wraps and tortillas from same store. Had 3 of the "mama lupes tortillas", bit smaller than normal ones, but BG 6.5 compared to 9 with two normal tortillas from sainsburys.
Tend to get loads of stuff at same time from low carb store so only pay one delivery charge.
Cheers now,
Malc
