Has anyone else heard of this?
Nope never heard of it Betty,
But now after 10 mins on google I'm an internet expert.
L-carnosine may help with T2 but unless your doing HIT I can not see any reason to spend money on supplements that take 4-6 weeks to see the benefit when you can just add things into your diet that does the same thing.
From what I read the reason it can help with T2 is it
reduces body fat and increases muscle growth, thus helping with IR in muscles but
nobody stated that as a conclusion.
The bad news
- L-carnosine is primarily used in High Intensity Training (HIT) to get these results and in you not weight lifting and sprinting/ endurance running then your probably not going to get the benefit.
- Muscle is not able to take up carnosine directly because it’s largely destroyed in the gastrointestinal tract.
- Can raise blood pressure, react with heart medication and cause erectile disfunction (assuming that.s not a problem in your case)
- And paresthesia tingling or numbness, skin crawling.
I'm not a fan of supplement for the reason above not always fully digested and absorbed in the body before passing through the or system.
It's often better to find the foods high in these supplements and eat more of them.
Now the good news
Its' the
beta-alanine an amino acid in L-carnosine , which is directly taken up by muscle and then converted to carnosine. Means that upping your foods with beta-alanine should give you the benefits and lessen the side effects of taking the pills.
Foods rich in :
beta-alanine : Meat, fish, poulty.
Foods rich in carnosine : Soy beans / soy nuts. asparagus. turnip greens, white mushrooms, watercress. seaweed.
Depending on your diet Betty you are probably getting more carnosine in your system than you think.
