It's that simple even I forget it sometimes
Geoff
LADA is sometimes called Type 1.5. Whereas T1 usually occurs in younger people, LADA remains 'dormant' for many years, hence the L for Latent. All you really need to know is how to control it. It has a honeymoon period from a few months to a few years after which you go on insulin and control it, for the rest of your life, like a T1. When it first presents it's sometimes mistaken for T2.Has anyone found new material on LADA? Books, magazines? What are the questions to ask your Endocrinologist? Is cardio a problem also with LADA as it is with the other types of diabetes? Just a note here, I was told by a nurse to check with an immunologist. I was also told to do that by my PCP. I am looking into doing that as I have asthma also.

Was there anything specific you were looking to know ?
Geoff
ps
was mistaken for T2 hence my "as a".
MDI = multiple daily injections (insulin)
Thanks for responding. I am not sure of where I get information on LADA that will help me talk to the endo and also give me knowledge. This disease it seems to be in the guniee pig mode. America is not as advanced in this as overseas is. I am on insulin now. Got a cardiologist as I feel that I will need one in the future as diabetes causes heart attacks. Did you get a cardiologist also?
Have you heard of the low carb, high fat fade? Butter Bob is the one that is talking about it here in the US. I don't know if others have heard about it. What do you think of it?
30 odd years ago I was a waist 32. Over the years that crept up to 36. Following diagnosis and adopting low-carb I lost about 1 1/2 stone and went down to a 34.Hi @librarising. When you were going through your honeymoon period did you have a problem with losing too much weight after going low carb? I was diagnosed nearly two years ago but struggling to keep any weight on. Hbac1 done last week and was 48.
Mothers are like that! I only recently discovered that I am heading for pre-diabetes (HbA1c 41) but I have been slowly losing weight for years and suspect I am heading for LADA. Currently I am eating under 30 grammes of carbs a day (inspired by the great Dr Bernstein ) plus a lot of cheese, butter and cream in an attempt not to lose any more. At 7stone 10lbs and 5 foot 9 I may be the thinnest person on this Forum! My GP recently referred me to an NHS dietician, who surprised me by not worrying about my low weight. Instead he said he doesn't go by weight or BMI and I looked fine to him. Indeed, when I look in the mirror I see a healthy looking person with rosy cheeks, though gaunt might be a good word to describe the rest of me. At present I am eating plenty of protein and fat to replace the missing carbs, and most of my carb allowance goes on healthy vegetables. My weight may have stabilised and while I don't want to lose any more I'm now happy to stay where I am. I'd love to gain some muscle weight through my resistance training, but that's a tall order.Yeah. Mum keeps on telling me I look gaunt though
Except that no-one will test me for T1, let alone give me insulin, until my HbA1c is a lot worse, so all I can do is test and eat low carb and watch out for a deterioration in my bg.Hi. LADA is simply late onset T1 so you need to be asking questions about T1
