Lanreotide and diabetes

I'm a T2 diabetic x 2.5 years, well controlled on diet, exercise and medication (insulin and invokamet). I also have NET lung mets with unknown primary, although the oncologist thinks it's pancreas. I'm going to be put on lanreotide, 1 shot every 28 days. I will be on it for the rest of my life or until it becomes ineffective. Lanreotide is a synthetic hormone.

I know that lanreotide can cause diabetes in non-diabetics, i.e., chemically-induced diabetes, but the patient info for diabetics is less than helpful. Apparently it can make blood sugars go either high or low. I'm not clear from the hand outs whether that means that some people develop high blood sugars and others low or whether it means that blood sugars can swing between them. The only directions the patient material has is "Test your blood sugars regularly". The handouts don't say whether the effects are different for T1 and T2.

I'll also be on sunitinib, but I don't think it has an effect on blood sugar.

I'm waiting to get in to see my endocrinologist.

Are there others on the forum who are taking lanreotide? What has your experience been?

Thanks
Pat
