Ok, want some advice on lantus. (have posted recently about lantus lows but this is not the issue.)
Over the last 2 or 3 days I've been despairing that my insulin resistance has gone up, frequent microdoses of humalong have stopped my levels from going massively high, but I've been hovering between 10 to 12.
So last night I cracked, I changed over my lantus cartridge (12 days into use and should be good for another 5).
I'd upped my dose already (to 18 which is my max) spent my night semi hypo (gave my self a glucose tablet every time my dexcom said I was down to 4,4) and spent my first morning in memory where I didn't have to inject for dawn phenomena. (Normally I'd need 2 units of humalog even if I fasted.)
So clearly my lantus had gone off {q1 should I keep my current pen in the fridge) but the interesting thing is how much less humalog I needed than when I have my normal lantus going. It seems that 1 unit of lantus is worth more than 1 unit of humalog?
Obviously I'm reducing my lantus back down as I don't want to have to scoff glucotabs all night but am bewildered as to the difference in efficacy...
And yes, I appreciate that lantus lasts for 24 hours and humalog for 4 or 5.
Comments gratefully received.
ps Autumn just started in NZ, lantus expiry date is 2023, so I don't understand why this particular vial has gone off.
