So I started using Lantus recently (12 units) and my question is can I use actrapid before meals alongside with Lantus? Also, can I use NPH plus Actrapid before dinner then Lantus at night? That's what I tried and my sugar was 4.5 at 2 am and I ate some carbs and I woke up 3.8 next morning. Also, hiw many points should I expect it to fall since I inject Lantus till the next morning?

Firstly, has your doctor not told you how to use your insulin - and what type of regime to implement? No offence, but it almost sounds like you've bought a load of insulin at the supermarket and don't know what to do with it...

Some people do use NPH insulin amongst a typical basal/bolus regime to combat things like DP.

Can I ask why you would want to use a short acting insulin, basal insulin and NPH?

Just as you said, to combat DP.. My previous doctor is a comolete moron and I'm seeing a new one very soon in October

Glad to hear that you've got a new doctor to see, and soon:)

Gary Schneider's book "Think Like A Pancreas" details various different insulin regimes and includes the one which you plan to undertake. It is apparently a very effective MDI regime if done right.

It comprises of a low basal dose in the morning to keep you steady between meals, rapid insulin across your meals and snacks and then NPH at night - timed to peak alongside your DP.

So to answer your first question, I wouldn't be taking the basal and NPH at the same time. Small basal dose in the morning and NPH in the evening timed to peak against your DP. But I'm no specialist and I'm only regurgitating what I've read in books.

Have you used a rapid insulin before instead of a short acting one like your Actrapid?
