Just got script for lantus as levemir isnt good for me
In your opinion would i use the same amount of units for either
Am going to start with much less and build up but just wondered how others fared while changing

I tried Levemir for around 3 month last summer and needed about 20u per day instead of the 16u of Lantus.

We are all different but you'd be wise to start off at around 75% of your Levemir dose and adjust as needed.

Thanks Robert thats what I guessed but nice to have it confirmed
The gp who gave it to me on my request is not the diabetes gp at my practice and so did not want to bombard her with questions a pity because i hear that lantus takes a few days to settle and again a few days to be out of the body should i need to change back so did you sort it quickly ?

It might have been easier for me as I was on Lantus to start with, so knew it took 3 days to stabilise before making further adjustments.

Switching to Levemir was quite easy by comparison, but no one had told me I'd need more - so I spent a week titrating that and working out the best way to split it. I liked it but it bought me out in large lumps where I had injected, so I went back to Lantus.

I would definitely start with a reduced dose and work your way up if necessary going by your bg results, when I briefly changed to levemir I needed substantially more insulin than I did on lantus and had to cut it right back again when I returned to lantus, my DSN did warn me that this would be the case.
