Hi all. First time posting on the forums but feel a need to ask for advice. Been on Lantus 100u for over ten years now and because of changes in working hours (specifically erratic shift work) since before christmas last year, having been having issues with higher BS readings than normal amd am pretty certain that the Solostar regime im on may not be coping with this anymore. Have recently changed to Novorapid short acting and even though this appears to be helping with meal time highs better than Humalog 100 was; my BS wont settle below 10-12 mmol over the rest of the day. Night time seems fine except lows in the morning with current Lantus dose. Am thinking that perhaps a different long acting might be better suited to me now. Anyone with any suggestions please?

I guess the first bit of advice would be to do basal testing to see if your lantus dose is right for you - https://mysugr.com/basal-rate-testing/

You might also need to look at the timing of your lantus or maybe splitting the dose.

Lantus doesn't offer a lot of flexibility, they say if you make changes with lantus you should give it three days to settle in. So if you need to change basal doses for shift work it might not be well suited. Levemir is more flexible.

I second the advice to basal test. That way you'll know if it's your basal dose or your bolus that's not quite right.

Shift work can mess with your blood sugar a lot.

hi @Simon5904
welcome to the forum:)
I agree with what has been said about Lantus -- it can take a few ( 2-3 ) days for changes to work through to BG readings.
have you spoken with your DSN regarding your issues ??
