Hi,

My diabetes control has been plummeting for a while now between meals and during the night. I've had several bouts of high and low sugars without reason. I've been offered a change in long acting insulin from lantus to toujeo. Advice please on the pros over lantus? Is it still lantus as I've read on the internet it still has lantus in it? Is it one injection still a day? Anyone else moved over and found it more beneficial?

Many thanks

Toujeo and lantus are the same insulin.

The insulin is glargine. Toujeo is a concentrated version.

Lantus very often isn't 1 injection a day. It only lasts around 18 hours, so many people split their lantus and take 1 shot in the morning and 1 in the evening. A good way of considering if you would benefit from this would be to do some basal testing. Here is a guide on how to basal test - https://mysugr.com/basal-rate-testing/

Alternative basal insulins to consider would include levemir (the default basal for type 1s according to NICE) and degludec.
