I dropped my lantus autopen with my lantus inside(brand new cartridge too :-( does this stop its proficiency) as sugars seem to be a lot higher in the teens plus 20's sometimes upon wake up and keeps increasing. I took a correction dose but it just didn't flatten me out kept rising again. Yesterday i had to take a double correction dose just to get me sugars down a bit strange to me and then still didn't flatten me out.

Hello, there might be a chance your pen has sustained some damage and isn't administering the correct dose. Do you have a spare Auto Pen you can switch to? You can check to see if your pen is dosing correctly (but please don't quote me on this, and I'd really like to be corrected if this is wrong!)

Pop a new needle on the pen take the case that the needle comes in off, remove the little white cap that covers the needle and then refit the case the whole thing comes in. Then twist up 20 units and release this into the needle case. This should fill the case up to where it starts to taper off.

I hope this makes sense!

I understand thanks. It filled up between the tube at the bottom and the bulkier top. Is this what you meant? Unfortunately I don't have a spare silly of me. I'll be dropping a prescription through the letter box in the morning asking for 2. Thanks for your help.

@Luke2709. Your information is correct. 20 units can be measured with the protective cap . 20 units should fill the cap up to the 4 fluted marks on the outside of the cap. If using this procedure don't forget to do an air shot before putting cap in place for test 20 units.

it is possible the cartridge cracked when it was dropped and the insulin is not being injected but the plunger still appears to give a dose -- if that makes sense -- can you smell a medicine type smell if you sniff the pen up close .

Hello @David Wass it should fill to where the black line is, sorry I couldn't get a straighter line round, I was using a large permanent marker! But as mentioned, it should fill right to the bottom of the plastic fin like parts on the outside. I hope you get sorted soon!

@therower Thank you for confirming that for me! I did ask on my BERTIE course the other day and the DSN hadn't heard of it!
