Hi folks
yesterday i had a blood score of 14.4 @ pre tea time test . Two hours later was feeling a bit odd blurred vision etc. Took a test and it read 5.5 (the lowest i've ever had). Ate a couple of digestive biscuits and a mouth full of wife's wkd. My score was 13.4 .Got up today and my score was 10.4 . Is this the ( Hypo ) effect?

If you go on to Diabetes Discussions and search for a topic called 'Hypo Info?' (type it in the search box) you'll find some information that may be relevant.

I think your strange feelings at 5.5 may have been a false hypo, if your bg levels have been running much higher for a while. A true hypo is below 4, and needs treating with a faster-acting carb than digestive biscuits - a couple of glucose tablets immediately will get you back up quickly, test 15 minutes later to make sure, then stabilise with (eg) the digestive biscuit.

I don't know a lot about hypos; I'm sure someone else will be along to help soon.

I carry glucose tabs in my handbag, in my test kit and in the car - just in case!

Viv :)

That's a normal blood sugar level, not a hypo. Re: feeling odd, quick drops in blood sugar can do this, even if the final low level is not too low, also like Viv said you can get false hypos if your blood sugar has been high for a while.

Thanks viv & HLW
Read quite a few of the posts on Hypo and got a better understanding now . I wish i had'nt drank some wkd .Can't get my level down now :( .
Diabetes is certainly a trial and error situation . Don't know what us newbies would do without this forum :D
Thanks again JF.

Thanks Daisy
My levels have been quite high over the first month of being diagnosed.
And this week my bloods were settling down a bit ( still testing 4x/Day ) this week gone i have had levels below 10 (usually in the 20's +) at the moment i am on 2 x 80mg Gliclazide (first thing) then same again before tea. My DN mentioned metformin 2 week ago (Have'nt heard off her since :? ) .
Thanks for the link it was a lot easier to understand :D
Thanks again JF.

 Thanks clare g
I maybe panicked as bit as pre diabetic i had taken a few blackouts over the last 3yr ( my Gp said i had nothing to worry about ) Yer right
Looking back i think i had diabetes for around that long if not longer.
Although i like my GP i do find she can be a bit of a goverment puppet. Shes a shareholder in the practice  .
My underlying problem is a damaged spine ( After a fall on some concrete steps )
I asked her if i was classed as disabled and the reply was quite bizzare (I would have said yes a year ago) I can't walk any further than 10 mtrs (Goverment guidelines) any way i'm finished twineing now .Thanks for your reply :D
JF.
