I'm grateful for the advice given several weeks ago, regarding my high morning Libre readings, and as suggested, I adjusted my Levemir by splitting it into 2 units at night, 4 in the morning. At first this worked very well, but this morning I found my BG went up to 9.8 without having eaten or drunk anything at all since last night when I had dinner at around 7 pm.
When first getting up this morning, my BG was okay, I think at 7.2. This was at 9 am. At 10.38 am it was 7.4. Then for some reason it went up to 9.8 at 11.38! only eventually coming down to 8.7 at 12.01, and then again up to 9.4 at 12.16!
I know that what can work is actually to have breakfast (which I normally skip and take 1 unit of Novorapid to deal with any rises), as having breakfast can stop this rise, but it has not been my custom to eat breakfast, I usually fast, and it doesn't always seem to work that way---that eating something can prevent the liver chucking the glucose out...
2 factors I have considered about this morning's massive rise. One was that I had a shower this morning before the rise... Can a warm shower make your blood glucose go up as much as this? And the second factor is that I injected in my legs, both Novorapid and Levemir this morning -----as my poor tummy seems to be punctured all over the place, and I thought it would be good to rotate a bit more.....
My last A1C was an excellent 41, (several weeks ago - in fact before splitting Levemir dose), but my experience today and yesterday in fact was really quite hair-raising. I tried to bring my blood glucose down yesterday by going on my exercise bike, and actually did 35 minutes, (in 5 minute periods), but it was very hard work and did not really seem to make a great deal of difference in bringing down BG. (and even at 10.15 pm my BG then was 9.0!--having eaten egg salad at 7pm).
Does anyone have any theories or suggestions as to what might be going on here?
Thank you!
