Hi

I was diagnosed about 18mths ago at age 41 and am trying to see if there are any common factors between us that might have led to the auto immune disease causing T1DM.

Some things from me for a starter for ten:

A couple of years earlier I was diagnosed with depression following a series of things which brought me to my knees and left me unable to cope particularly well with normal life. I am on Citalopram 40mg.

In the few months leading up to T1 diagnosis, after a medical examination to check my bowels it was discovered I had high BP, so was put on Candesartan 8mg.

A suggestion in Volek and Phinney's Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living suggests Statins may be a causal factor of diabetes though - as far as I've read - doesn't specify type. I have also been on statins since a bit the time I have been on BP tablets.

Grateful to see if anyone else's stories match or just to hear from you.

Had pcos and then gestational diabetes with pre-eclampsia all of which made me more likely to develop type 2. But after a period of stress my stupid body decided on type 1.

Hi. I am 50 and 6 months into a T1 diagnosis following a lot of stress over the preceding year as I lost my Mother in Law via Dementia and my Dad to a brain tumour then cancer. Alongside this my work was very demanding and as I work for myself suffered and increased the stress and pressure

I was put on Oxactin for mild depression just ahead of my diagnosis and Dads death and now tests have revealed a high cholesterol level which I cannot manage easily through diet as I am fit and (mostly) healthy.

I have reduced my hba1 down from 107 to 48 and managing pretty well. I am now needing to review diet though to cut out the diabetes related fats so will take a little adjustment.

Good luck with adjustment and I have learned masses in the 6 months I have joined this particular club and always happy to share knowledge and experience

Brian

Thanks @bushbri

I have just gone back to LCHF and am confident for the future especially as I have also given up alcohol too

Pre-eclampsia & gestational diabetes diagnosed 5.5 years ago at same time (hospitalised at 34 weeks). This was after an easy pregnancy up to that point.

Lots is stress (work & then marriage break up), also depression probably for 12 months and maybe more, but only recently diagnosed.

Diagnosed aged 37.

So similar to @Diakat
