Hi

Never quite sure where to post this so it's on Ask the experts as well!

Had my latest tests back today

Diagnosed 6 months ago with Hba1c of 12.6

3 months ago it was 6.9

Today it is 6.4
L
Blood Pressure 112 over 75

Have been on a low carb diet since the discovery of this site about a week after dx also on 3x met per day and 1 simvastatin (40)

Cholesterol was tested this time

LDL 1.9 Previously 1.2

HDL 1.1 Previously 3.9

Trig 2.4 Previously 1.6

I know cholesterol was a problem as I was put on simvastatin a couple of years ago and it was on a yearly cholesterol visit that I was diagnosed with Type 2

Understand the Hba1c test results and am pleased it is going in the right direction. Not sure about the cholesterol reading . Any thoughts?
Thanking you in advance.

Rude people! Not being able to do the things I want to do.
Lipid panel
Shows the amount of 'good' and 'bad fat in your blood
(Cholesterol tests are fasting blood tests)
plasma should be clear, lemon or straw coloured. Opalescent plasma is indicative of high lipids and trigs.
(my lab ranges, others may differ slightly)
Total cholesterol range 4.00-6.2mmol/l
HDL ('good') cholesterol female >1.40 female post menopause and male > 1.15mmol/l
LDL ('Bad') cholesterol (calculated according to Friedewalds formula) <3.85 (but many specialists feel eople with diabetes should be below 2.6mmol
Cholesterol/HDL female<4.5, male <5.00
Triglycerides 0.35- 1.70 mmol/l

Here you are,Mike, courtesy of Phoenix. This should tell you how to interpret your cholesterol.

I will delete the other thread you started in 'ask the experts 'so you don't get confused by to many answers to the same question.

Thanks Sue. Still a bit confused as to whether the drop in Hdl is a good thing or a bad thing - same with the triglycerides and Ldl! Do you add them all up for your overall level or is that not a useful indicatore anyway?

Pleased with the BP and Hba1c though

Your HDL is the good stuff,it should be higher than the LDL which is the bad stuff. The Trigs should be a lot lower than they are ,these are the things associated with heart attacks.Your previous Cholesterol was a lot better. What have you changed in your diet to put up your cholesterol?

Since the test results from August, I've switched to a low carb diet. This has reduced my daily BG levels from the 20's to the 5s and 6s. I suppose I eat a lot more cheese, meat, nuts, green veg and very little carbohydrate.I've also lost about 2 stone in weight. Was drinking benecol and the like before dx but stopped because I wasn't sure of the effect on BG. Anyone got any ideas?

I suspect someone has got them the wrong way round, I never heard of anyone with a 3.9 HDL before!

If LDL and HDL are transposed then trigs/HDL is just about spot on.

Drop a few more carbs and your lipids will be better than mine. Your BP is *significantly* better than mine. Go away! <giggle>
