I have a friend at my painting group who has had Type 2 for a number of years and who follows the 'healthy eating plate'. I told her about LCHF diet but she dismissed the idea. Today was our first day back at the group after the summer break and I wore my skimpiest top and everybody was amazed at how much weight I had lost. My friend had bought the Daily Mall article in for me to read (I had already seen it) and it seems that it has persuaded her to try the LCHF diet, why she would believe a newspaper article and not me I don't understand. Because she won't buy anything over the internet she asked me buy her a meter so she can test, hurrah. I'll get her onto the dark side if I have my way. She will have plenty of support from me along the way.

Hoorah. People believe all sorts of things they read in newspapers, and thank goodness your friend believed this. My brother knew I was self-testing but it took a Guardian article (a very bad one in all other respects btw) to change his mind and immediately he realised he had to give up bread. Hope your friend is on the path to better health now.

My sister, who is 15 years younger than me is also type 2 diabetic and follows the 'healthy eating plate' as advocated by her surgery. I tried talking to her once about a low carb way of eating but she cut me off short and now we never discuss our diets or how we are managing our diabetes but I would be so pleased to help and support her.

HI @marymeg7
Difficult to get people to do what they don't want to do. Could I assume she is not testing her BG? Hopefully her HbAc1 will show some response to her change in eating... if it doesn't, then might be the time to suggest low carb again, it might take a while... fingers crossed.

If you find a way of getting through, can you let me know please. My youngest brother is morbidly obese and what they like to call pre-diabetic, so obviously at a stage where he could do so much to correct things. Despite my exceptionally pleasing results after going the low carb way (3 less drugs, very good BG, weight loss), he still hasn't listened to me. He seems to think that Glycemic Index is important, and although it might slow down the release of glucose into the blood, it doesn't stop the overall amount as in Glycemic Load. Sadly, he doesn't read newspapers.

Lol in my family we have a few people that are brain washed by the Daily Mail, several conversations end with

"Oh well if it's in the Daily Mail it must be true" ... (heavily loaded with sarcasm) lol

Perhaps I am unusual both my GP and the Gastric Consultant I saw earlier this week are fully supportive of Low Carb dieting. As the consultant said, carbs = sugar. Then again I haven't been near the diabetic nurse and have no intention of going there. If I want to be talked to like a 10-year old, I will ring my Mum :) Yes I know that is monumentally unfair.......
