Just had a review with the DN and my latest hba1c was 5.3,
so my last 3 hba1c have been 5.4, 5.3, 5.3, She said she does not want to see me again and i will be now classed as pre diabetic on my medical files and not type 2, i also put on 3kg and this has had no effect on my results, time to stop being complacent and to get those extra kgs off just in case.
All in all quite happy

Very nice. Ask them to reclassify you as "post type 2 diabetic". Those HbA1c numbers are below prediabetic levels. That's assuming you are not on any diabetic meds now.

I have never been on any meds all done by low carb, even the DN thinks low carb is the way forward, i am just glad i found a couple of websites where i could get a wealth of information from,
i think that as part of you initial diagnosis you should be referred to websites like this, i know you have to be disciplined and want to improve but the advice i had from my Doctor was just take these tablets do as i say and you will be alright, i never took any tablets because i thought diabetes was just a minor ailment and it was not until i investigated it that i began to understand just how serious it can be. Thanks to websites like this you can get masses of info on how to control it and not let it control you, i am not much of a poster but believe me i would like to thank everyone on here who has posted issues and answered threads because thats how i have improved my condition,

I agree completely. I may also get my diabetes nurse to see the benefits of a low carb diet for type 2 diabetics. I'll try, anyway.

Excellent Mark! Hope you are very proud!

How did you get your HbA1C under control?

I was DX December 2014 with a FBG of 10.4 and told to take medication, also told the normal things like you dont need to test eat what you like but cut down on sugary things.
I then decided i did not want to be dependant on drugs so researched about type 2 and how people are controlling it, Straight away i cut out rice potatoes pasta and bread and anything that contained sugar, i lived on meat fish cheese leafey veg lots of salad.
typical breakfast would be 3 egg omelete with cheese and a ccup of tea followed by a cup of coffee, Lunch would be chicken salad or any type of fish including prawns with a salad, and a cup of tea, evening meal would be any meat any amount i wanted and as much veg including carrots cabbage spinach cauliflower brocoli etc, dessert would be sugar free jelly full fat greek yoghurt and a handfull of mixed nuts, if i felt hungry anytime i would snack on cheese or 85% chocolate.
i exercised daily which might just be a 20 walk or a 10 mile bike ride, i tested before each meal and 1 & 2 hours after meals if i found anythin that i think caused a spike ( i always tried to keep below 7.8 after 2 hours and very rarely went over, my morning readings were **** and still are mid 6s most of the time but drop after i eat,
To be honest i played it like a game that i very much wanted to win i found what i could eat, what spiked me (getting angry sent me to 8.3) testing after sex had me at high 7s dont know why i tested just wanted to see if it had any effect and it did, the more i controlled it resulted in me adding more foods like indian take away without the rice and bread, i also have a beer or wine if i want and that has no effect.
My diet is still fairly low carb and i will never go back to eating anything starchy i now know why i used to feel so lethargic i cut out the carbs and got a lot more energy strange but true (ialways thought you needed carbs for energy).
I am not saying what i have done will work for everyone, i do believe the most important thing you can do is test and find what works for you, perhaps i was lucky and was found early. You do need determination when all around you are having chips cake ice cream etc. but i just think about my eye sight and my limbs and the feeling of wanting to eat rubbish soon goes away.

I also set myself targets get below a certain number and stay in that range for a certain time, ie bg average of 6.2 for 30 days would result in me buying myself something. also the way i started feeling to the way i was feeling was all the motivation i needed.

I hope this can be of some help to you

Mark
