LCHF & Calorie Counting?

Daibell, you are referencing the "all calories are the same" model. I've read about this at length and although strictly speaking as a measurement of energy, all calories are the same, but that misses the "qualitative" aspect of the food groups generating the calories. Some calories are handled differently, for instance by our hormones etc and are processed more efficiently particularly so when are bodies are adapted on a ketogenic diet such as LCHF. Or at least that's my take of the reading I've done.

I think you may have mis-interpreted my post as I agree with you.

My misinterpreting you would not surprise me ...haha....I might have seen all round metabolic improvement that I find staggering, but the old brain is still as thick as 4 short planks :)

oh my goodness I am so overwhelmed by so many of you answering my questions -- thank you all so much .. I have only got back on line to day and am sitting here like a Muppet smiling to myself... I will re-read all again and get organised ..I bought a accu-chek aviva Nano and blood was 11.5 .. I will check out all your links.. THANKS SO MUCH EVERYONE .. wishing you a lovely day :)

Hi Jo, you will need to find a balance that works best for you, some can manage 50g+ of carbs yet some can barely manage 10g have a little look on the 'what have you eaten today' section for meal & snack ideas. Are you testing bg? That will be the way you can work out what foods work for you. I hope you find the forum useful :)

Hi Mrsass thanks for your reply I will check the section out... Yes testing bg in morning .. Forum seems great
as have been feeling a bit lost thanks :)

After rereading your first post on percentages of macros, mine average 5% carbs ( all above ground veggies), 15% protein and 80% fat. Sound like a lot of fat? Picture this. 2 or 3 handfuls of salad greens, some chickens or shrimp or whatever protein you like, some chunks of avocado dressed with a reasonable amount of olive oil. Now you're at roughly 5/15/80. Then have a small handful of nuts for a snack. Dinner would be protein with steamed veg and / or salad with olive oil and BF would be eggs fried in a little butter or hard boiled with mayo and onion and eaten with celery sticks. The day ends up being 5/15/80 and I don't see an unhealthy thing. This is just an idea of a days menu.
Many of us keep carbs around 20 but many eat much more.

All I can say to Kristin's comprehensive contribution is Ditto for me too.

I need your help.
I've been eating 80% protein, 15% carb and 5% fat.

I'm trying hard to have 60% protein and now 35% carb and 5% fat.

I need more like your ratios!
I need to work on it.
Might make a chart for my fridge.

Which section does broccoli and brussel sprouts come under? Carb?

I need only 15% protein. Which is going to be harder than giving up floury carbs.
Maybe getting a lot of glucose from protein?

Hope you don't mind me asking as I'm still relatively confused. I've just realised how much protein I was eating!

Why do you want to up your protein intake to 60%? Broc and sprouts have carbs, but very negligible. Eat as much of these as you want.

Hey there! That is a ton of protein but I used to eat a lot more than I do now. Yes for me protein converts to glucose very quickly.
Broccoli and all veggies are carbs.
The 5/15/80 is very simple. I'm not sure which foods you like and want to keep but I eat the same macros at every meal. I switch up veggies proteins and fats. Avocado is extremely satisfying and wonderful for bs. Here are my typical meals.
BF is half an avocado smashed with sea salt and some celery. I need a very low carb low protein BF or I spike. Sometimes I have a piece of deli turkey on a large Boston or romaine lettuce leaf with mayo and mustard. Occasionally eggs salad with mayo on the wrap.
Lunch is the other half avocado and another lettuce wrap with mayo and 2 oz protein. Celery and radishes
Dinner is 3 oz protein usually on another wrap or salad with Evoo or a mayo based dressing. Sometimes spicy, sometimes mixed with mustard and sometimes more savory with herbs. For. Some reason olive oil is like water both not satisfying and does nothing to keep the spike slow and low. I need avocado and mayo. Snacks are a small handful of nuts or pumpkin seeds or a spoonful of peanut butter. Sometimes olives. Dinner occasionally has steamed veggies instead of a salad. Small meals with a few small fat snacks keep me lower and steadier but I need fat at all of them. These are just ideas to get macros right. Personally I don't eat any starch, grains or dairy. Way big spikes. It takes a bit to get used to but once you have a routine it's easy. I cook in bulk and freeze in 2 and 3 oz portion see and just defrost in water for a half hour. I have loads of options every day.

If you tell us what your normal meals are and size/quantity of food we can help you rearrange it.

If I recall from other threads you ar looking to lose weight? Then I definatley recommend lowering protein and adding fat. Complete reversal.
