Hi, i have been doing the LCHF diet for 4 months now and have totally normal blood sugar, the doctors has stopped my meds though i never told him i never took them anyway. i have lowered my blood pressure and now have no inflammation. today i bought some test strips for ketones and am surprise that it shows between 0 and 0.5 ? i could not believe it as i have not been eating carbs at all, the only thing i can think off is i drink around 5 coffees a day with milk and sometimes whipped cream on top. does anyone have any advice on how to create more ketones please.

Cut the milk and use cream instead or maybe take your coffee black.
Milk has 4.7g of carbs per 100g so depending on how much you put in your coffee you could be having a carb boost.
To get to into ketosis most people aim for under 20g of carbs per day.
Is the whipped cream sweetened at all?
Fasting will also help.
However if your bloods are fine without meds then is there a particular reason why you want to get into ketosis?
Regards
Mark

Also like bloods I think the level of ketones can change during the day. Mine seem to be higher in the afternoon than in the morning.. although I have only tested this when I forgot to take the morning reading..so more than a little unscientific. Also as the strip are so expensive I'm wary of too much ketone testing.

Hi, would I be correct in assuming that you are testing your urine for ketones? If so, the level of ketones in urine is reduced after a few weeks of burning fat and only reliable ways of testing is from blood or breath. I use the Ketonix breath ketone analyser www.ketonix.com which doesn't give exact levels of ketones, but you can see your relative levels.

Have you tried fasting? Once you are fat adapted then its relatively easy.. ish.. I recently did a 7 day no food fast with a bulletproof coffee once a day to jump start my weight loss after a bit of plateau... seemed to help a bit and got my best ever ketone reading of 3.5 on day 3 .

Still not sure if you are using the urine strips?
They are thought to be very inaccurate as once you are in ketosis "proper" you don't pee out the ketones as they are being used by the body. At least that's what I have read.
Have you checked out the 2ketodudes podcasts? They are very interesting and they also have a very helpful Facebook page.

It is coffee with any combination of cream, butter, and coconut oil emulsified into it. Very high fat and calorie andpretty much zero carb.

Dr Google will know, lots of recipes out there. I would tell you but I am not a coffee drinker so I don't know.

I love coffee so will have to give this a go. What quantities are we talking?
Depends.. I usually do a tablespoon of coconut oil for a large mug (about 400ml) of coffee and cream mix. I use a nespresso and put the cream in the milk frother about 50:50 double cream and water. Thats with 3 shots of coffee.. I'm a bit of a caffeine head..I must admit I have never tried the "proper" recipe with butter. I have it at 11 on a fasting day and it seems to dull any hunger pangs.
