i really want to do the lchf diet. But I'm useless at planning.
I love buttered toast.
Don't know where to start.
I'm overweight on insulin ( I hate this)
I have ulcerative colitis so have to be careful with salad and raw veg!!
My blood sugars are always high ( 10-19)

Hi @Happy hippy. I'm not fond of veg myself but it's very possible to keep to LCHF without. How do you feel about a cooked brekkie? Egg cooked any way you like, high protein sausages (most supermarkets do a 97% meat version), good quality bacon. If you need a quick start to the day because you have to pop to work, a hard-boiled egg and slice of ham or cheese would do the job and keep you full until lunch. Add a coffee with double cream and you'll be super satisfied.

If you want some lunch, most places will give you a slice of meat and cheese or buy a burger and dump the bun.

For dinner, anything you want but drop the carby pasta, rice or spuds. Have some chicken or fish in curry sauce (count the carbs) with cauli rice or a stir fry with spiralised courgette, a good casserole, a chicken breast or steak with fried tomato and broccoli. Let your imagination run riot and you'll learn to enjoy your food again. LCHF isn't nearly as restrictive as it seems at first.

Do check your meter whenever you add a new food, though. The first aim is to get your levels down, much more important than just losing weight, though that may help.

@Happy hippy - Go to the top of the page and click on the word FORUMS, then scroll down to FOOD and NUTRITION there you will see all kinds of Diets. Just click on and have a look at what others eat to get some ideas.

Hi thank you for your help and advice.
I'm not keen on breakfast. I'm never hungry until after midday.
I sometimes have porridge then lol.
But I'll have eggs and bacon instead.
Also cauliflower rice stir fry.
I'm home with bad arthritis and it's painful to stand for too long.
I'm making yogurt now. It's much nicer than shop ones.
I sit on the kitchen when I can.
I've bought coconut and Almond flours to
Try making waffle mix and bread with.
Just got to have a day when I can cope with making it lol
Thanks again
Maddy. X

Hi welcome to the forum :) - there a quite a few lower carb breads out there now if you like your toast - 1 slice mind! :)

There is burgen soya and linseed- 11g carb a slice
Warburtons protein loaf - 9g a slice
Tesco high protein loaf 10g a slice
Morrisons high protein loaf 8g a slice
Lidl do a high protein roll which loads of people on the forum are crazy about at about 10g a roll and probably the most filling!
Livlife bread which is about 4g I think

Thanks for the useful info. I have just googled them and found Warburton have included lunch ideas on their website. They will have to be adjusted for lchf. Easy on the tomatoes but I have seen lots of threads asking for lunch ideas so this might help. http://www.warburtons.co.uk/recipes/lunch/healthy-recipes I have only tried the lidl rolls so this is not a comment on the relative merits of the breads. Will be near a waitrose on Tuesday so will try a livlife £1.59.

Hi and welcome :)

Since you are on insulin it is VERY IMPORTANT that you switch to low carb slowly adjusting your insulin as you go - otherwise you may risk going hypo from too sharp a drop in blood glucose.

Do you carb count? And what insulin regime are you on?

Unless you are very confident adjusting your own insulin doses you should get help from your healthcare team in calculating your insulin reduction.

Hope that helps :)
