LCHF Diet

So I've read a lot of information that said any meats, fats etc are healthy for you. LCHF sounds very similar to the Atkin's diet. From what I understand, the guy who created the Atkin's diet died, and he was apparently obese and had cardio related complications. I read that he fell and hit his head and went into a coma for 2 weeks and that's what ultimately killed him, but apparently someone released his medical records.

What do you guys think about this? Do you believe the complications were from his diet? On this high fat diet, should we stay away from trans fats found in meats?

I'm not making any accusations or anything, I'm completely new to all of this, I'm just looking for a little bit of insight from some more experienced individuals.

Thanks!

Not necessarily, and he was a very old man when he died. And there's always someone around who's ready to bad mouth someone when they're no longer in a position to reply. Low carb diets were actually used to treat diabetes long before Atkins came up with his variation which is probably used more as a general weight loss regime.

And there's a fairly important difference between the Atkins diet which is high in protein, and a "generic" low carb diet which is higher in fat and more moderate in protein. High protein intake can/may result in any excess protein being converted to glucose in the absence of carbohydrates, and as diabetics we're trying to avoid those higher glucose levels.

As far as I'm concerned what Atkins did or did not die from is really not my main concern, which is eating a diet that reduces my glucose levels, lowers my weight, and helps me avoid any possible future diabetic complications, and low carb is helping me do that.

There are some trans fats naturally in meat and are not harmful. These are not the same trans fats made in a chemical factory.

No, it is not true that 'any' meats and fats are healthy. Highly processed meats are not healthy - think salami, pepperoni, etc. Not all fats are healthy. Veg/grain oils are not particularly healthy. Many are made using a chemical process and are not natural. Even olive oil can be unhealthy if it is not pure, unadulterated extra virgin, which most of the stuff in grocery stores isn't. Natural fats, especially animal fats, are healthy.

Dr. Aktins died after slipping on ice and striking his head. He died of a head injury. He was not obese when he slipped. He was 6' tall and 195 pounds.
