Lchf proposal in Au....,

Is that just low carb or vlc?

I have a dietitian now that supports low carb vlc to her is a little different i was told to have a carby meal every now and then to fuel the liver.... to me thats contradictory.
I believe the thinking about charging the liver is related to the liver stores being necessary as the lender of last resort in that our evolutionary journey has tailored us to be adaptable and be able to sustain times of hardship and possible starvation. If we deplete the liver too much then we will not have the reserves to sustain us in emergency situations. In normal life we are usually not faced with this challenge. but we are seeing extremes of weather or civil unrest that can interrupt the normal flow of food supplies without warning, This may be why some nutritionists are wary of Low Carb diets.

The are reports too that followers of an LC diet report that in the longer term they notice their glucose count to start rising despite no changes to intake and thus require increasingly strict control over intake. Research has shown that a periodic flash of carbs does seem to be effective in curtailing this mission creep effect, Again it is probably the same survival reaction which the liver dump is associated with, where our liver tries to boost bgl if it thinks the levels are too low, If the liver has no glucogen stored to give , then that is not a safe state to be in.

Some people on keto diets may be setting their targets too low, and not realise they have possibly flattened their bio batteries to an unsafe level, Unfortunately it may not be obvious, but I have had comparable experience with my car battery where the first cold day of winter has revealed a sick battery that needs replacing suddenly.

Yes, iappropriate according to those who recommend hi carb diet for which there is little evidence of effect !
But it is claimed to be evidence based,,,,, here in UK it is LCHF that has no evidence according to the professionals and the nutritionists, That is the backbone of NICE in that it is fully backed up by evidence based studies, such as Ancel Keyes 7 Continents. That and the WHO database, which is largely epidemeological.

Pls see Jennifer Elliott vs DAA and Jennifer's article on the lipid hypothesis also zoeharcombe.com who debunks the lipid hypothesis and false, biased research against LCHF, Dr Unwin's research was used to persuade NHS to fast track the LCHF diet for T2Ds in UK.
