I don't suffer from thyroid issues myself, but, having had an assortment of friends with thyroid issues, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer (me and my hubby are that sort of age) I did extensive reading on these issues and discovered the work of Dr David Brownstein. He is a major advocate of Iodine supplementation. So, following the 'at least do no harm' principal, we take Iodoral 12.5 mg every day. This mineral is not without controversy, read the stuff yourself. There are some good YouTube videos by the good doctor and his book is worth a read. We have had no ill effects and in actual fact some long standing issues have resolved. My hubby had had dreadful verrucas since our children were small - within 3 months of starting iodine they just spontaneously disappeared. We have been taking Iodine for at least 3 years now and minor infections etc seem to be a thing of the past (touch wood). I commented on this on an Iodine forum and dozens of people reported the same thing. There is also a website called 'Stop the thyroid madness' which strongly advocates natural desiccated thyroid, rather than the synthetic thyroxine. I can't comment on that, as I said, I have no thyroid problems, but I do think that this epidemic of thyroid / prostate / ovary / breast disease is likely linked to some nutritional issue. Iodine has to be taken with selenium, magnesium and vitamin C but I have no problem with that, all good things.
Just throwing this idea in, you may think it irrelevant / crazy - but I think it's worth investigating!
