hello i have been suffering from leg pain for nearly 9 months now and still my doctor does not know what it is one thought it was siatica another the disc in my back but x rays etc proved nothing i am in extreme pain 24/7 having to be doped up on pain killers that only last a few hours i was reading up on leg pain and found that diabetics can suffer from some kind of muscle wasting disease and was wondering if to approach my doctor about it i am at the end of my tether i just want this pain to go away

Hi icklemomma and welcome to the forum, I suffer similar sounding back and leg pains in my right leg, if your doctor is sure that your leg pain is not diabetes related then it is worth seeing an orthopaedic consultant who can arrange an MRI scan.

In my case it showed spondilitis of the lower two vertebrae, or degenerative arthritis :? which I understand it very common and unfortunately little can be done to help other than the usual co codamol or tramadol.

Hope yours turns out to be muscle cramps or something :D

If you are on Simvastatin That may be the problem
I had a similar problem but the DR said it wouldnt be my meds. I had CT scans for spinal stenosis, I had examinations for arterial claudication and both proved neg. I couldnt walk 100 yards and actually asked for a blue badge i found it so difficult walking.

I eventually got him to take me off statins and withing a month I can happily walk 3 miles a day. Im waiting to try a new statin but I'll be very wary.
Either way your DR will help

Hi there
i have to agree and say that if your on the usual diabetes regime that includes Simvastatin then give it try without for at least 6 weeks (after discussing it with your doctor)
That certainly cured the aches and burning pains in my calfs, and i could walk as far as i wanted again, i have though gone back onto simvastatin at a nuch reduced dose so have no pains and still blood results are coming down

Also have a look at other postings on the site about statins, i think they cause a lot more problems than is realised in my opinion
best regards and hope you get some releif soon

re,leg pain? i get like a numbing pain in the ball of my foot, theres no obvious bruises.
but it really causes discumfort, so much so that i can hardly walk at times, my job requires me
to stand for 12hours a day. which i no wont help can any one help me on this matter?

A statin by any other name......... Mine was Lipitor. Incredible arm pain like what I imagine RSI might feel like. Stopped taking it and the pain went away. Why was I on it? Well, diabetics need to have an overall cholesterol reading of 4.0 and below. When I equate the pain and the medication my GP glazes over.
I decreased carbs and increased fat (yes, that is not a misprint-fat-increased) and down and down went my cholesterol readings (the bad ones anyway) and up went my good cholesterol. My non-diabetic husbbnd wanted what I was getting- more energy, weight loss, great non-diabetic BG control etc and he joined me low carbing and increased fat and guess what?!!!! His cholesterol figures (not medicated) improved out of sight!
I am not an anomaly. There are many more LCHF out there getting the same results as me (and my husband).
Now I read that Nexium (reflux preventative) has the potential to deplete Vit B12 and this can bring on neuropathy. I took it for many years and had neuropathy happening long before T2 was diagnosed.
GP looked reflective when I shared this little gem with her. She was not the instigator of prescribing this med but continued issuing repeats without warning me. Would I know what the implications were a few years before DB? No, but heck......

HI
I have suffered the same problems pain in my back unbearable and numbness to top of left leg. Saw a pain specialist and he diagnosed a problem with my Facet joint L2-L5. He first did a diagnostic test by injectiong a small amount of local which worked fine, and yesterday i had the procedure, which burns the nerve pain to the joint. Talk to your doctor or ask for a referral to an orthpeadic surgeon and ask if you can have an MRI or X-rays, or even ask to see a pain specialist.
Take care
Tracey
