I posted in another forum but on reflection maybe it was the wrong one so here I go again . .

I'm T2 and diet controlled. My latest results are stated in my signature. My issue that's now driving me slowly mad is a prickling burning sensation in my right leg. It's the knee area and part way down the leg. I have no injury to this area and my legs and ankles have also been swollen over the last 2 weeks or so.

I've tried searching for answers on here and googled my symptoms. Could it be peripheral neuropathy? I've also seen and read something about Parathesia.

I DO have an appointment with my GP pending but it's not until the end of next week and at this rate I think I may have to try and get an earlier appointment! :(

Hi there. No one here can diagnose you as much as we understand the need for answers. Neuropathy usually starts with the fingertips and toes but like everything else about diabetes, everyone is different. Some people get numbness, others tingling, and still others pain ranging from annoying to disabling. The swelling is also concerning but in the end this is a thing for a doctor to look at. I hope you feel better soon.

only a doctor can tell you... , but how do they diagnose neuropathy.... I am not a doctor and nobody in here can say what exactly is wrong with your leg.... my mother has neurological problems in her legs and she describes it a bit like you ... she is not diabetic though... I guess one week doesn´t do much difference when it comes to neuropathy...

some people have som good effect of R-Alpha-Lipoic-Acid at least 600mg a day for at least a month if it ends up your doctor diagnosing you with that...

but I read somewhere that some experience that it disapears again in some seldome cases...it could also be a nerve that is squeesed...or something else maybe...

there are so many levels of peripheral neuropathy and people can have it to some degree in many many years before they Loose their ability to feel their toes and feet... ..

try to relax and wait to see what your doctor says...

Thanks for replying. I know no-one can diagnose me but by comparing or finding out more about my symptoms I thought it would possibly give me an idea what I'm dealing with and prepare myself.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. It is worrying me and I am a bit of a worrier! My leg has been prickling/tingling/burning in the same area for most of the evening. I'm hoping it's nothing but I also want to face up to what it might be. I rely on this forum a lot as people are so helpful and knowledgeable and will help and advise others if they can. :)

Just thought I'd update this as I've recently seen my Dr.

My legs were thoroughly checked and she also used a metal vibrating tool which I could feel when placed on different areas of both legs. I was asked if I had pain in my calves - I don't so I'm guessing that rules out blood clots?(thankfully). She agreed my right leg was bigger than the left and also that my ankles were swollen (in the pics I'd taken on my mobile a week or so ago).

I now have a change in blood pressure medication and have been prescribed Losartan Cozaar (12.5 mg) - 1 daily. I think she was unsure about what was causing the problems and mentioned that I may need a referral to a nerve specialist - obviously this is dependent on whether or not my leg (s) sort themselves out!

Fingers crossed they do!

Just a thought - might be worthwhile getting checked for B12 deficiency as it can cause symptoms similar to neuropathy.

Would they have tested for B12 when I had my full blood test? They checked a whole load of other functions Inc thyroid and cholesterol.

Am off to Google symptoms now . . .

Thanks :)

Did they check you for Gout? It comes and goes and it might have nothing in commin with your diabetes.

I haven't been checked for gout and it wasn't mentioned. I personally don't think it's gout as after googling exactly what gout is, I don't have that many of the characteristic symptoms i.e. redness. I guess I'll need to give it 2 or 3 weeks with the new blood pressure meds and see if it disappears. If not, then some possible tests and/or a referral to a specialist.

Just a long shot, I suffer with leg cramps and the doctor gave me quinine tablets, after taking them my legs started to itch. I have since binned them and all is well (except for the cramps)
