Hello

I have a terrible cough and cold and was wondering can I take Lemsip Max Cold and Flu capsules I have read the back of the box and nothing is stated but just wanted to be sure!

Can't see a problem with it, it's only paracetamol and psuedoephidrine, although you don't state what meds you are on. http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html is a good site to check interactions.

Tom
I'm 99% sure they don't use pseudoephedrine anymore due to the fact it was being abused to create methamphetamine for recreational use (exactly the way they did it by using large quantities of Sudafed in Breaking Bad). In most cases, it's been replaced with phenylephrine.

When I last had a cold I was taking Lemsips as I had always done for colds yet I then discovered these were no good when having Diabetes.
I went to Boots and got some advice from them and it was the capsules that they gave me.

I think you're right. I got mighty p&ssed off after my local chemist stopped selling Sudafed Red. Twas the only thing that works when my sinus's are blocked solid :-(

I was told by pharmacist today that sudafed cant be taken by diabetics??

Epinephrine will most likely raise bs as well as pb. I just try to struggle through with ibuprofen. Vitamin C he.ps colds but raises me. Loads of cold meds have sugars in stupid amounts

Hope you feel better. Rest, relax and drink broth. Safest way to go

Have you tried a salt pipe? I have chronic sinusitis and have found this to be beneficial. I have the dry type (Salitair)but I believe there is a steam one as well.

It beats me that they get away with calling it a remedy. Anyhoo, my 'ol Mum used to say treat a cold and it will be gone in seven days, leave it alone and it will go in a week.

Seriously. At the first sign of a cold, soak q tips in hydrogen peroxide and put In your ears. If it sounds like the 4th of July and popping, keep them in there. Do this multiple times a day until the popping stops. It's killing all the bacteria and stops a cold dead in it s tracks.

Sounds silly but it works. Do it when traveling as well. Right before you leave and when you arrive. It's amazing

I love this, @Guzzler !

Funnily enough, having thought I'd batted away the nearly-cold I was brewing a couple of weeks ago, I've got a sore throat and runny nose this morning. Great!

I'm right out of hydrogen peroxide though, @Kristin251 ! To my knowledge I've never had any in the house - a quick Google just now has told me about its antiseptic properties. Might have to mount a mission to the chemist.

:)

Interesting factoid for you, the common cold virus takes just twenty minutes to infect the human body and less than twenty four hours to manifest. The virus has been shown to enter mostly the eyes rather than the airways. I am truly a mine of useless information :-)

It's worth asking your GP if you're okay taking whatever cold remedies you used to take in the past. Some things are labelled as unsuitable for diabetics, when they really mean diabetics who are taking medication for high blood pressure. I have been given 'permission' to take various things in the past, in spite of blanket bans on labels.

It really works like a charm. I buy those safety baby swabs as the cotton in a lot bigger. Dunk them in the bottle until saturated and put them in your ears. Listen to the fireworks. A bottle is less than a dollar. It also ok to gargle with especially when we have colds.

Everyone is different. I always use to rely on lemsips before becoming Type 2 and then two Christmasses ago I came down with a head cold and I reached for the lemsip - blood sugars all over the place and I went to bed on Christmas Day morning and didn't wake up until the evening of Boxing Day

I had no idea what happened. i was told that the lunch was lovely (I'm the cook) and that my mother in law went home earlier on Boxing Day - so not so bad

I now rely on Ecinacea and keeping the hell away from anyone who sneezes

T2 Oct 15 (diet, metformin time release, and a shed load of exercise)

Awwwwwww, thanks @Kristin251 - I feel very very lucky because I took some Beechams Cold & Flu as a headache had also sneaked into the party, and headed off for my PT session at the gym. And absolutely NAILED the session, and felt right as rain!

Went for a run this morning and am absolutely tippety top! Just as well I've shaken it off as I've got three birthday parties to attend this weekend (not my own, I hasten to add!) and I don't think a cold would have been at all welcome. Glad to have missed the bullet!

Definitely going to stock up on H2O2 to deal with any future sniffles.

@ohitsnicola hope you're feeling muchly better too. Hugs!

LOL - that's so funny - I hadn't realised the original thread was so ancient, @ohitsnicola ! I would jolly well hope you're feeling better by now (although perhaps you've had a sniffle or six in between!!!!!!).

LOL!
