Less Insulin with Illness?

Hello all,

I have had my basal needs reduced the last few days, pretty much on -50 all day otherwise I end up dropping. Today I have woken up with a slightly cold. Nothing major but looking around the forum and a bit of google it should definitely be the opposite.

My only assumption is that my honeymooning pancreas has ramped up production to the illness as it would if it worked properly.

Does this sound plausible?

There's no should about it. Illnesses can impact on insulin requirements sending them up or down depending on what's going on inside. I certainly don't have a honeymooning pancreas but I've had viruses make me hypo and need to reduce my basal. Just like I've had illnesses send me sky high and need to do constant corrections.

Hope you're not feeling too poorly.

Cheers Catapillar, interesting as I have only read the opposite but thats why personal accounts are more important to me :)

Feel perfectly fine apart from the sniffles, thanks for asking :)
