I am a 63 yo with T2 for 18 months, controlled by 1g of Metformin daily. I follow a low carb regime, and have HbA1c of 6.5. I have alo had both hips totally replaced by titanium.
Went walking in the French Alps last couple of weeks, and found out two things about myself. First, my stamina is not what it was. In cycling terms I "bonk", getting suddenly very tired. When I used to cycle a lot, the secret was to carb load with spaghetti, bananas etc, but this avenue is not open to me any more - or is it? Secondly, after a long descent (about 4 hours), my legs became very rubbery, and I had very stiff and painful legs for the next few days. I know this is due to tiny muscle tears, and is how your muscles get stronger, but is this process compromised by T2?
Basically, will I have to take things much easier now I'm T2?
